That sound made Professor Finch shoot up from his seat, practically sprinting out to the courtyard in a panic.
It was his Lily!
He had watched Lily grow up.
Ever since she was old enough to understand things, she hardly ever cried unless she was in real physical pain!
Raelynn recognized the voice instantly. Her heart leaped into her throat, and she spun around, ready to dash out. But Preston smoothly caught her wrist, pulling her back.
A silent reminder: Sebastian was right there.
A chill crawled up Raelynn's spine.
She forcibly suppressed her instinct to run to her child.
However, Seraphina noticed their intimate hand-holding and immediately drew her own conclusions. "Ah, I see what's going on. Even Mr. Moreno can't resist a pretty face. Are you here today specifically to beg Professor Finch on Raelynn's behalf?"
The moment she spoke, Raelynn felt a physical wave of nausea, her brows pulling together.
But what she felt first was Sebastian's casual gaze drifting over. His eyes lowered, sweeping over Preston's hand, which was still wrapped around Raelynn's wrist.
He didn't say a word.
"I just wonder if Mr. Moreno would be as generous with her as Seb is with me," Seraphina added with a soft smile. "Ten million dollars isn't a small amount. Investing it in NexusMind's research projects would surely yield a much better return than spending it on her."
She was almost certain that Preston wouldn't pander to Professor Finch and fund a children's charity just to help Raelynn.
A woman like Raelynn was just a plaything to men like him.
Nothing to be taken seriously.
Preston let out a dark chuckle. "The rumors of Mr. Croix being a married man are pretty widespread. So, Ms. Vance is flaunting the money of a married man. You certainly are bold, aren't you? Not afraid of getting sued?"
To be so arrogant right to Raelynn's face!
Who gave her the audacity?
The answer was obvious!
Seraphina flinched at the jab, annoyance flashing in her eyes. What kind of lies had Raelynn been feeding Preston?
Why else would Preston side with Raelynn over a woman of her caliber?
Raelynn pressed her lips together, feeling a pang of genuine worry.
By publicly humiliating Sebastian's sweetheart right to his face, would Preston draw Sebastian's wrath upon himself and NexusMind?
She quietly looked over.
Only to find Sebastian raising his eyelashes at that exact moment, their eyes colliding.
"Instead of bickering, shouldn't we see what happened to Professor Finch?"
His single sentence immediately quelled the brewing argument.
He whipped his head toward the edge of the courtyard and roared.
"Whose child are you?! Where are your parents?!"
Raelynn followed his gaze. When she recognized Shane Vance, the red rimming her eyes iced over.
Shane was visibly shaken by the terrifying aura of the old professor.
His face flushed purple, and he didn't dare say a word.
The smug smile Seraphina had worn out the door instantly vanished.
She had told Shane to wait in the car until they finished so they could take him to dinner!
How did he end up getting into a fight with the professor's kid?
When Shane spotted Seraphina, he immediately knew his backup had arrived. He clutched the toy he had snatched tightly to his chest. "I just asked to play with it! She was being stingy and wouldn't give it to me! Why shouldn't I get it?"
Raelynn recognized the toy.
It was Lily's Lego set.

"You pushed her? And hurt her?" Raelynn's voice was as cold as frost, her eyes terrifyingly lethal.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
