Rina's remark hung in the air. The surrounding crowd shifted their gazes back and forth between Raelynn and Seraphina. To their surprise, setting aside the halo of being Sebastian's girlfriend, Raelynn's radiant features and stunning curves actually outshone Seraphina's.
Seraphina pursed her lips. She shot Raelynn a displeased glare. Was Raelynn addicted to this petty rivalry? Who even wanted to compare looks with her?
"You..." The person who had spoken up for Seraphina choked on their words, though someone else still muttered unhappily, "Then Ms. Ortiz should at least explain herself to Ms. Vance."
Raelynn understood perfectly. In everyone's eyes, Sebastian was Seraphina's property. Raelynn had supposedly infringed on her rights. She apparently needed Seraphina's generous permission just to interact with him.
Raelynn scoffed, staring straight at Seraphina, who was silently letting the crowd fight her battles. "Fine. Are you absolutely sure you want me to lay it all out?"
Seraphina wasn't stupid; she caught the underlying threat. There were too many people here. Not to mention the live cameras. If Raelynn lost all sense of boundaries and exposed the truth...
Her expression cooled as she turned to the crowd with a dismissive wave. "I appreciate everyone's concern, but our research comes first. It's fine, let's just get back to work."
Raelynn almost wanted to applaud her magnanimity. At least when it came to her public persona, no one could find a single flaw. She was just about to leave.
She noticed the man beside her hadn't moved an inch, his gaze lingering on her face with an unreadable intensity. Raelynn furrowed her brow. Tilting her chin up, she met his predatory gaze. "Afraid I'll talk too much?"
Sebastian's deep eyes flickered, and he spoke in a slow, deliberate tone. "That is your freedom. Just make sure you weigh the pros and cons."
Raelynn fell silent. She had wanted to snap back at him. But his words were the harsh reality.
She had promised the Croix family not to disclose her identity as Mrs. Croix, let alone smear their name. Naturally, she couldn't expose Seraphina as the home-wrecker. Sebastian was warning her. How he chose to protect his mistress would soon be none of her business anyway. Raelynn simply ignored him and turned to enter the lab.
She pushed the little episode to the back of her mind. She also ignored the occasional mocking and disdainful glances thrown her way by the others.
That evening. It was the wrap party for their first day.
Chloe had been reviewing the master tapes with her team.
That was how she found out about the afternoon's drama.
The moment she arrived at the restaurant, she plopped down right next to Raelynn. "That Vance woman is completely out of her mind! What were they thinking, making the actual wife apologize and explain herself to the mistress?"
It was totally backward! Wasn't interacting with Sebastian Raelynn's absolute right as his legal wife?
Raelynn poured her a cup of herbal tea. "Here, drink this. Calm down."
Chloe pouted. "People like her need to be taught a lesson!"
Raelynn looked at her in confusion.
