Eventually, the engagement would just dissolve on its own.

After dinner, Chloe had to head back to review the footage.
Raelynn went downstairs alone, ready to head home.
She had long grown sick of hearing the endless chatter about Seraphina and Sebastian across the table, craving nothing more than a moment of peace.
Just as she stepped outside.
A light spring rain began to fall.
And there, standing right by the entrance, was Sebastian.
He was looking up at the night sky, his sharp, clean jawline cutting a striking profile against the drizzle. Dressed in crisp, cold black, his tall frame stood impeccably straight.
Hearing her footsteps, he turned his head. "Did you drive?"
Raelynn hadn't planned on speaking to him.
Caught off guard by the question, she replied out of basic politeness, "No."
"Do you need a ride home?"
Raelynn found the offer almost comical.
If he really wanted to give her a ride, would he be asking?
"No need."
"Alright."
He didn't even bother with a follow-up, acting as if he had just checked off a mandatory social obligation.
"Sebastian, we should get going."
A Bentley pulled up, the window rolling down to reveal Seraphina. She shot a quick glance at Raelynn before calling out to him.
Sebastian strode over on long legs and got straight into the car.
Raelynn felt even more certain now—he had just been faking politeness.
There was no way he'd actually give her a ride, nor would he let her intrude on his private world with Seraphina.
Raelynn pulled her gaze away.
She was entirely used to being the one left behind.
She barely even felt a sting anymore.
Hailing a cab, she headed straight back to her apartment.
The next day, the research and compounding process continued.
During their lunch break.
Raelynn took her takeout box to join Chloe, who was monitoring the screens behind the scenes.
The filming was continuous.
Raelynn was curious to see what it looked like from the director's chair.
Sitting in front of the bank of monitors, she was stunned. "This really captures every single detail. Just how many cameras did you set up?"
