Raelynn sat back down.
The door opened.
When she saw the picture-perfect 'family of three' walk in, she didn't even have the energy to react.
How amusing.
Out of all the doctors in the massive hospital, they just had to end up in her office.
Did they want a round of applause?
A congratulations on their perfect romance?
Seraphina spotted Raelynn and frowned. "Why is it you? Where's the senior specialist?"
Raelynn pulled on her surgical mask. "I'm covering the shift. If you don't want me to treat him, the door is behind you. Otherwise, sit down."
Sebastian, holding Shane's hand, looked at her at those words.
Raelynn knew what that look meant.
He was upset that she was being rude to his precious girlfriend.
"Shane's been experiencing dizzy spells recently. We wanted to see if traditional medicine could help balance him out," Seraphina said, glancing at Raelynn as if strictly conducting business.
Sebastian sat on the side, his tone calm and precise. "He also experiences chest tightness and shortness of breath after minor physical exertion. His hands and feet swell easily, and his face flushes quickly."
Listening to Sebastian detail another child's symptoms with such flawless precision...
So meticulously.
Exactly like a devoted, responsible father.
Raelynn's pen hovered over the chart, her hand trembling slightly.
And yet.
Lily, his own flesh and blood, had never received a fraction of this love.
She knew the truth deep down.
Even if she hadn't hidden Lily from him, if they had lived together as a family of three, Sebastian would have undoubtedly ignored them both. Lily would have spent her entire childhood crying over a father who simply didn't care.
"Sebastian, you're going to make a wonderful father someday. I just know it," Seraphina smiled warmly, shooting a triumphant glance at Raelynn.
Sebastian's phone rang.
He stood up. "I need to take this."
Seraphina beamed. "Go ahead, I'll stay here with Shane."
Sebastian walked out without sparing Raelynn a second glance.
Raelynn didn't even flinch. She completely ignored Seraphina's blatant threat about having his children.
She checked Shane's pulse.
She examined his vitals and assessed his symptoms.
"Severe childhood obesity and early-onset metabolic syndrome. If left unchecked, this will lead to critical cardiovascular issues. Cut out all junk food and sugary drinks immediately. If he has sleep apnea, he needs to be admitted for observation," Raelynn said flatly.
"You're lying! You're just a bad woman trying to bully me!"
She had known Raelynn was covering a shift, but she had no idea whose office this was.
She stared at the shattered glass and broken models on the floor.
She glared at Raelynn. "Why didn't you say something sooner?"
Raelynn's eyes turned to ice. "So it's fine for this little monster to destroy other people's property?"
"Who are you calling a monster?" Seraphina hissed.
Raelynn didn't care about her fake outrage. She waved her phone. "I've got the whole thing on video. Go grovel to Director Moreno and beg for his forgiveness."
She ignored Seraphina's furious expression and walked out of the office to call security.
A few minutes later, she compiled an itemized bill of the destroyed items and had a nurse hand-deliver it to Seraphina.
She knew Seraphina would hate her even more for this.
But she didn't care.
However, she didn't expect the retaliation to come so quickly.
The very next day, she ran into Silas and Blanche in the hospital lobby.
"You pushed Seraphina and ruined her reputation. As your father, I can overlook that, but you need to apologize to her. Here's what we'll do. Since Sebastian is divorcing you soon anyway, sign over The Antique Shop to Seraphina. She's always liked it," Silas demanded bluntly.
Raelynn's face drained of color. "What did you just say?"
"The antique shop. We're giving it to Seraphina as her dowry to marry into the Croix family."
