But she silently agreed.
Seraphina was the only one who could trigger a real reaction out of Sebastian—
Not that it mattered anymore.
The reason she picked the seventh was because Lily was starting school on the eighth. Finalizing the divorce would make Lily's transition much safer.
Determined to be clear-headed for the negotiation, Raelynn took heavy doses of medication, breaking the worst of her fever.
On the morning of the seventh, she headed straight to their marital home.
Standing at the door, she habitually punched in the passcode.
Beep, beep, beep—
Access denied.
Raelynn froze for a second before the realization hit her.
Sebastian had changed the locks.
With the divorce imminent, he was drawing a brutal, definitive line between them.
Locked out of the home she had lived in for seven years, Raelynn didn't even feel sad. Since he had changed the code, she needed to act like the outsider she now was.
She pressed the doorbell.
The doorman rushed over to open the gate.
"Madam, why are you ringing the doorbell to your own house?"
Raelynn just smiled without answering.
It wouldn't be her house much longer.
Walking into the living room, she looked up and saw Sebastian descending the stairs.
Following closely behind him was a stranger in a sharp suit.
Sebastian lifted his gaze, his eyes resting on Raelynn's face for two seconds. "Sit."
After the passcode incident, Raelynn had firmly placed herself in the role of a guest. She sat down, waiting for him to speak.
Sebastian crossed the room with long strides and sat in the single armchair next to her.
The man behind him immediately placed a document in front of Raelynn.
She glanced at it.
A divorce agreement.
But it wasn't the one she and Sebastian had signed seven years ago.
"Review it. If there's anything you want to add, just say it. If the terms are satisfactory, sign it," Sebastian said, his tone perfectly even.
Anyone walking in would think they were negotiating a corporate merger.
Not ending a marriage.
Raelynn picked it up. Surprised as to why they needed a new one, she began to read.
As she went line by line...
She was shocked.
No.
She was utterly stunned.
What she didn't understand was why he was being so incredibly generous.
Croix Holdings was an absolute titan of industry. They owned countless brands and properties. The annual dividends alone would be an astronomical figure, not to mention giving her actual voting power.
Back when Chairman Croix Sr. forced her to sign a prenup, he had only allocated her three million RMB. Legally, she was entitled to absolutely nothing else.
"Is this compensation? Or hush money?"
Raelynn looked him dead in the eye.
There was no such thing as a free lunch. She knew that better than anyone.
Sebastian simply gestured for her to flip to the final page.
Raelynn turned the page.
Her head snapped up.
Sebastian poured her a cup of tea and pushed it across the table. "I expect you to remain absolutely silent regarding the reasons for our divorce. Furthermore, if a situation arises where your identity as Mrs. Croix is accidentally exposed, I need you to cooperate and help maintain the company's public image."
"So, you're giving me all of this wealth just to keep Seraphina's identity as a homewrecker a secret, and to protect her pristine public image?"
Raelynn summarized the core issue perfectly. "And on top of that, I have to continue playing the role of your convenient puppet?"
Sebastian's expression didn't waver. "Interpret it however you like."
Raelynn almost wanted to slow clap.
If she wanted to witness her husband's absolute devotion, she apparently had to view it through the lens of another woman.
Before Raelynn could reply, Mr. Davies stepped forward with a second document.
"There is also this supplementary agreement regarding child custody."
