The hospital corridor bustled with people.
The noise was deafening.
But Sebastian's voice was so low, so quiet, that only she could hear it.
His large hand gripping her wrist was warm, yet it felt like it had instantly sprouted thorns, violently piercing her skin.
Raelynn looked up at him, her fever-pale face completely devoid of emotion.
After quietly observing her expression, Sebastian turned to the woman cowering behind him. "Go check on Shane first."
Assistant Quinn, standing right behind Sebastian, immediately stepped up. "Ms. Vance, please don't worry about things here. I'll escort you."
Seraphina's face finally regained some color.
She had genuinely been terrified by Raelynn's psychotic outburst just now.
She was inches away from being publicly humiliated.
But now that Sebastian was here to protect her, she viciously yanked her arm out of Raelynn's grip.
"I'm fine. Shane is waiting for me. Just come over when you're done," she said, refusing to look at Raelynn.
She turned and fled the battlefield.
There was a high chance Raelynn would keep screaming like a lunatic, and she wanted no part of it.
Once Seraphina was gone, a knowing, sarcastic smile curled on Raelynn's lips.
Sebastian was terrified she would still cause a scene and expose his mistress, so he had quickly evacuated Seraphina to safety.
"You don't need to remind me about the divorce," Raelynn sneered, violently wrenching her wrist free from his grip. Between the fever and the sudden exertion, her legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed.
Sebastian reacted instantly.
He reached out, grabbing her arm to steady her.
Ignoring her blatant disgust, he pressed the back of his hand against her sweaty forehead. He frowned slightly. "You have a fever?"
Oh, so now he cared?
Raelynn wanted to laugh, but she felt like any laughter right now would just make her look even more pathetic.
She ignored his question, taking a massive step backward. She wiped the spot on her arm where he had touched her as if brushing off dirt. "Don't worry. It won't delay the divorce."
Sebastian watched her aggressively wipe her arm, his dark eyes unreadable. "If throwing a public tantrum solved problems, life would be perfectly easy. All you'd have to do is cry."
Raelynn knew exactly what he was doing.
He was lecturing her. He was calling her attempt to expose Seraphina an irrational, hysterical outburst!
Even when the Vance family was practically driving her to the brink of death, he chose to look the other way!
"If word of this gets back to the Croix family, you won't be able to handle the fallout," Sebastian stated calmly.
Raelynn knew it was the truth.
But how was she supposed to just swallow the humiliation?
Raelynn made it around the corner before stopping, leaning heavily against the wall as a wave of severe dizziness hit her.
She still didn't understand why Sebastian had spoken as if this was the first time they were discussing divorce.
They had been in the middle of divorce proceedings for a while now. They had even signed a preliminary agreement.
But whatever the reason, it didn't change his core motivation.
He was doing this to protect Seraphina's reputation and secure her rights.
He was warning her. Reminding her that they were practically strangers now, and she had absolutely no right to interfere with his new "relationship."
And she certainly wasn't allowed to publicly "smear" Seraphina's good name.
Raelynn was too sick to continue working.
She had no choice but to take a sick day.
Her first priority was checking on her grandfather.
Once she confirmed Silas hadn't visited the estate, she let out a breath of relief.
She immediately called the hospital and placed a strict ban on anyone visiting her grandfather.
When Chloe found out, she rushed over to take care of Raelynn. After hearing the whole story, Chloe scoffed. "When you asked for a divorce before, he ignored you. But the second you threaten to expose Seraphina, he immediately clears his schedule?"
Raelynn didn't reply.
