Julian was equally stunned by the sudden turn of events.
He turned his gaze toward Sebastian.
After all, Sebastian held the ultimate veto power.
Meeting Raelynn's stare, Sebastian slowly set his teacup down and finally broke the silence. "We'll consider it."
Raelynn frowned, a spark of impatience flaring in her chest.
What did that mean? Were they getting divorced or not?
Matilda slammed her cane heavily against the floor. "Don't try to humor me! You're thirty years old; you need an heir. Boy or girl, you must have at least one. And I will only acknowledge a child born to Raelynn!"
"Fine."
Sebastian didn't bother trying to change his grandmother's mind. He agreed without a second thought. "Then that's what we'll do."
Raelynn stared at him in sheer disbelief.
She never imagined he would actually agree. A suffocating wave of frustration choked her, and she opened her mouth to argue.
But Matilda was already nodding in satisfaction. "Since that's settled, you and Raelynn can discuss the compensation. The Croix family will make sure she's well taken care of."
Matilda patted the back of Raelynn's hand. "Even if you divorce, as long as you're the mother of a Croix heir, our family will ensure you're set for life. It's the ultimate security. I know you'll come to see the benefits of this, my dear."
Matilda didn't give Raelynn a chance to refuse.
Waving her hand, she delivered a final ultimatum.
"If you want to protect Seraphina, you'd better do exactly as I say."
That threat was aimed squarely at Sebastian.
With that, Matilda turned and left the room.
The message was delivered.
The moment the door clicked shut, Raelynn's expression turned frigid. She glared at Sebastian with icy resentment. "I said I want a clean break! I am not accepting any additional terms!"
She didn't even want the man anymore.
Why on earth would she agree to have his baby?
Sebastian closed the divorce papers, watching Raelynn's face flush with anger.
She seemed exceptionally repulsed by the idea.
She glanced at it.
Her breath hitched in her throat.
It was the transfer agreement for The Ortiz Antique Shop...
She looked at him in total shock. "How did my family's shop end up in your hands?"
Mr. Davies quickly explained, "Mr. Croix bought it from Silas Vance a few days ago. The transfer process with the Vance family was incredibly complex, and there was a mountain of authentication paperwork for the antiques. The deal was only finalized today. It's valued at nearly a hundred and ten million dollars."
A storm of emotions crashed over Raelynn.
She knew exactly how priceless the antique shop was.
It was the very foundation Silas Vance had exploited to build his own wealth like a parasite.
No wonder Silas had stopped harassing her grandfather for his signature to transfer the property.
He had already cashed out handsomely with Sebastian, eliminating the need to bother her grandfather anymore.
What should have been a battle of wits against the Vance family had suddenly turned into a massive bargaining chip in Sebastian's hands.
Sebastian absentmindedly thumbed his metal lighter without igniting it, his dark eyes locked onto her. "Matilda's word is law. She will only let this go if you agree to her demands. Raelynn, if you play along with what she wants, I will personally hand the antique shop back to you."
