Raelynn didn't care whether Sebastian actually left the suite or not.
He probably had.
Seraphina was dressed to kill, so they undoubtedly had a wildly passionate night planned.
Raelynn stayed locked in her room.
She was already fighting a miserable fever and had absolutely zero energy left to deal with any more drama.
She used the room's landline to call Preston, telling him to cancel whatever birthday plans he had made. She just wanted to sleep and recover.
Only then did Preston realize how sick she actually was.
After calming him down, she asked him to smooth things over with Luke and explain that her phone was lost in the pool.
After that, Luke didn't come back to pound on her door.
Preston must have handled him. The night finally settled into total silence.
Filled with relief, Raelynn fell asleep clutching her Rosewood Padlock Charm tightly in her hand.
The next morning.
She dragged herself out of bed and walked into the living room.
She stopped and stared.
The massive bouquet of Blue Tulips and the gorgeous floral cake had been brought inside and left right on the kitchen island.
Hotel housekeeping had probably moved them in.
Assuming she still wanted them.
Raelynn walked over and gently ran a finger over the delicate blue petals.
Then, she picked up the entire arrangement and dumped it straight into the trash.
-
After heading downstairs.
Raelynn went straight back to The Hotel Swimming Pool and found the manager.
"Excuse me, did your staff happen to find a phone while cleaning the pool yesterday?"
A hotel of this caliber had insanely strict protocols.
Their cleaning standards were ruthless.
Even a pool that massive was thoroughly drained, scrubbed, and inspected every single day.
She had barely taken five steps out of the pool area.
When a large hand clamped down hard on her wrist.
She spun around and met Luke Sterling's furious, ice-cold gaze.
His striking face was taut with rage. "Raelynn. Care to explain yourself?"
His grip was bruising. Raelynn frowned, trying to yank her arm back, but he was far too strong. "My phone fell in the pool. I had a massive fever and couldn't contact you. Believe it or don't. I don't care."
She didn't owe Luke anything.
She absolutely refused to cower in front of him.
Luke finally took a hard look at her. Her voice was noticeably raspy, and her complexion was alarmingly pale. He slowly frowned. "So Preston wasn't lying to me?"
Preston had called him to explain, but Luke assumed it was just a pathetic excuse.
"What would lying accomplish? Would it magically make you give us more money?"
Raelynn was out of patience. "Let go."
She didn't have a soft, submissive look. Her features were sharp and flawlessly stunning. Without her signature dimples softening her expression, her striking eyes looked fiercely intimidating.
Luke stared down at her gorgeous, defiant face, taking in her absolute refusal to back down.
