It actually drew a laugh out of him.
He glanced down at her wrist, a flicker of regret in his eyes before he slowly let go. "Since you took the time to explain, I have no reason to be petty."
In the past, Raelynn wouldn't have given him a single excuse; she probably would have told him to get the hell out.
She shot him a weird look.
Psycho.
What was he so happy about all of a sudden?
"Even though you stood me up," Luke Sterling looked down at her, rubbing the hand that had just held her wrist, "I'm still investing in the project."
This time, Raelynn was the one caught off guard.
She thought Luke would put on airs or fly into a rage and back out.
"To be honest, I don't think your project is highly feasible right now. There are too many technical barriers, but..."
Luke's gaze turned somber. "My mother died because her tumor was in an incredibly dangerous spot. Surgery wasn't even an option. If there really is a robot that can overcome those surgical hurdles, why not?"
It was R&D that would benefit patients.
Even if it was throwing money down the drain, he was willing to try.
Raelynn couldn't help but see Luke in a new light.
"Looking at me like that, I'll start thinking you've fallen in love with me." Luke pulled a contract from behind his back and handed it to her. "Get a divorce first, then. I don't do the 'other man' thing."
Raelynn was speechless.
Definitely a psycho.
She took the contract and glanced at his signature on the last page.
"Mr. Sterling, you'll thank yourself for this decision in the future." Raelynn believed in investment freedom and respected everyone's choices. She waved the contract at him, turned, and walked away.
Luke raised an eyebrow as he watched her leave.
This project better succeed.
If it did...
He stared at her retreating figure, then raised his hand, looking at the palm that had held hers.
His predatory gaze intensified.
