She subconsciously pursed her lips and shimmied even closer to the edge.
Sebastian noticed the movement.
He cast a calm glance at Raelynn's back.
He didn't have any major reaction, simply closing his eyes to sleep.
He made no other movements whatsoever.
The room was completely silent.
Sharing a bed while dreaming completely different dreams—this was exactly it.
Raelynn's mind, however, was racing. She had to be incredibly careful with every step she took moving forward. Until Lily's residency was settled, she wouldn't know a day of peace.
Unfortunately.
The fast-tracked divorce certificate couldn't just be re-issued.
She couldn't help but frown.
Buzz, buzz, buzz—
From behind her, the sound of a phone vibrating with incoming messages rang out.
The buzzes came one after another at irregular intervals.
Raelynn didn't even bother to open her eyes. She could guess without looking that Seraphina was definitely going out of her mind. After all, she had seen with her own eyes that Raelynn and Sebastian were going to be together tonight, so naturally she had to 'check in.'
Behind her, Sebastian reached out and picked up his phone.
Raelynn had no idea what he texted his girlfriend.
But the phone went silent.
As he shifted his position, Raelynn genuinely felt a bit on edge, her grip on the blanket tightening.
Right then.
His voice, laced with a faint, dismissive scoff, broke the silence. "Go to sleep. I'm not going to touch you."
Raelynn paused.
Then she understood.
He wasn't trying to reassure her at all; he was expressing his absolute loyalty to Seraphina, perfectly adhering to the code of a devoted boyfriend saving himself for his true love.
He probably sent the exact same message to Seraphina a second before he said it to her.
Otherwise, that phone wasn't going to stay quiet tonight.
Now completely capable of ignoring his existence, Raelynn focused on the issue of Lily and slowly drifted off to sleep.
Hearing the noise, he looked over.
Mary immediately seized the opportunity. "Mr. Croix, why don't you drop your wife off at her office?"
Sebastian cast a faint glance at Raelynn.
He didn't refuse.
Raelynn didn't say much either.
If they were going to play the part of a loving couple, they might as well go all the way. Both she and Sebastian had critical reasons why they needed this divorce finalized. In a way, they were practically... a united front now?
They got in the car.
It glided smoothly out of the estate grounds.
Raelynn and Sebastian sat on opposite ends of the backseat. The physical distance between them wasn't massive, but there was an inexplicable, uncrossable divide.
Sebastian looked down at his phone, glancing over at Raelynn in between replying to messages. "The first round of funding for NexusMind will be transferred today. When does your project officially launch?"
Raelynn replied absentmindedly, "I thought Mr. Croix only provided the money and didn't interfere."
"Asking questions and interfering are fundamentally different," he said.
Raelynn turned her head to look out the window. "If you're curious, go communicate with Mr. Moreno. Why ask a nobody like me?"
