Raelynn honestly had no idea.
She only knew Dr. Evelyn Hayes as the pride of the medical field—a towering figure equivalent to Professor Alistair Finch, with immense influence even in political circles.
She knew The Yves Family was powerful.
But she hadn't realized Julian had struck the genetic lottery by being Dr. Hayes's grandson.
Thinking of Julian made Raelynn's brow furrow automatically.
"The apple certainly fell far from the tree," she muttered. Julian's biggest flaw was his sheer blindness and lack of objectivity, always fiercely and senselessly defending his friends and their lovers.
"Did Mr. Yves do something to offend you?" Preston asked, intrigued.
Raelynn gathered her files and stood. "We just don't get along. We clash on every level."
Julian had repeatedly told her to step aside so Seraphina could have Sebastian, completely blind to the fact that Raelynn was the victim in this mess. She couldn't reason with someone who threw logic out the window just to protect his inner circle.
After finishing her work.
Raelynn headed back to the marital estate as usual.
Since Matilda Croix had caught her and Sebastian lying recently, the older woman would be watching them like a hawk. Raelynn wasn't going to rock the boat.
Just as she expected.
Sebastian was also playing along by coming home.
The moment she walked in, she saw Sebastian already dressed in a casual black loungewear set, sitting on the sofa and flipping through a foreign-language book.
He glanced up at the sound of the door, his tone mild. "You're back."
Raelynn paused, her hand hovering over her shoes.
Sebastian never used to come home this often.
But now that his divorce was stalled—meaning he couldn't publicly claim Seraphina—he was suddenly incredibly cooperative.
It gave Raelynn a weird sense of relief.
She had been worried he wouldn't prioritize getting the divorce certificate back.
But since it threatened his fairy-tale ending with Seraphina, he was evidently more anxious than she was.
"Yeah," Raelynn replied shortly.
Sebastian turned a page. "You must be tired. Let's eat."
