Just as they were heading to another section, Raelynn turned around and practically ran into a group that had just arrived.
Sebastian was already a magnet for attention, and several eager executives flocked to him the second he stepped through the doors.
Beside him, Seraphina Vance smiled radiantly, her arm looped through his.
They looked like a match made in heaven, effortlessly becoming the center of the room's attention.
Two women brushed past Raelynn, whispering enviously. "Did you notice? Mr. Croix and Ms. Vance are color-coordinated."
Raelynn's gaze was unavoidably drawn their way.
The other woman gushed, "His tie is navy, and her suit is in the same shade. Have you heard that saying? 'My tie will always match the color of your dress.' Oh my god, it's so romantic!"
Raelynn finally noticed it.
Sebastian was indeed wearing an understated, deep navy tie.
Time clearly wasn't a measure of a relationship's depth or quality. During her seven years as his wife, she had never been treated to such a romantic gesture.
Sebastian had broken so many of his own rules for Seraphina that Raelynn had lost count.
"Why did he bring her?" Preston frowned.
Seraphina wasn't even on the R&D team anymore. What point was she trying to make by showing up today?
"Let them do whatever they want," Raelynn said, looking away.
She could easily guess the reason. Sebastian had been forced to come home to 'deal with' her lately, which meant he had to appease Seraphina on the side. Today was likely his way of making it up to her, considering the industry knew Seraphina had been part of the joint project between NexusMind and Kingsford University.
She was clearly here to steal the spotlight.
Preston seemed to come to the same conclusion and scoffed. "She just won't give up, will she? Being left off the official credits must be eating her alive."
This drug was poised to be an industry game-changer.
Whether Seraphina was bitter about it or not, she just had to deal with it.
Leo Flynn, trailing behind Sebastian's group, was the first to spot Raelynn.
As a savvy businessman looking for prime investment opportunities, he was surprised to see her. "Didn't she get pulled from the final stage of the clinical trials? What gives her the right to be here?"
Sebastian followed his gaze.
Catching sight of Raelynn just as she turned to walk away with Preston.
Preston was pulled aside to chat with a senior colleague.
Raelynn went ahead to find their assigned seats.
Dozens of pharmaceutical companies were in attendance, all waiting with bated breath for the approval results.
NexusMind had scored prime seats in the front row.
The moment she sat down, she pulled out her phone to review the drug's data.
Someone took the seat next to her, bringing a familiar waft of Fir & Rime cologne.
Raelynn turned her head and met the sharp, structured profile of Sebastian Croix.
She hadn't expected their assigned seats to be right next to each other.
Before she could react.
A shadow fell over her. She looked up to see Seraphina standing there.
Looking down at Raelynn, Seraphina spoke with a gentle yet unyielding tone. "Ms. Ortiz, I'm going to need you to trade seats with me. It's much more appropriate for me to sit here."
