What about her?
Would she still be the center of attention?
Would all the pampering and privileges she enjoyed be transferred to this newly returned heiress?
The thought made Seraphina frown, her carefully maintained smile stiffening.
Her instincts violently rejected the existence of such a rival.
But she quickly brushed the anxiety aside.
It had been years without a single trace.
How could they possibly find her now? For all anyone knew, the girl had died in some gutter, her bones already turned to dust. There was no point in stressing over a ghost.
Comforted by that dark thought, her mood lifted.
She walked back to Sebastian's side. Gazing at his refined, striking profile, her chest warmed. "Julian is so good to his sister. It reminds me of how much you seemed to like that little girl we ran into the other day. Have you ever thought about having a daughter?"
Sebastian had a younger half-brother.
Born to his aunt after a scandalous affair with his father.
Seraphina knew Sebastian felt absolutely nothing for the twelve-year-old boy, Stephen Croix.
Her question triggered a memory deep in Sebastian's mind—a vivid image of a soft, innocent face that already promised breathtaking beauty.
Especially those distinct, sweet dimples.
He swirled the amber liquid in his glass, a rare, genuine warmth tugging at the corners of his lips. "Maybe."
Seraphina flushed deeply, misinterpreting his answer.
Her gaze turned passionate and hungry. "You'd make a wonderful father. I just know it."
His "maybe" meant he was open to the idea.
He wasn't opposed to having children. Therefore...
A calculating gleam flashed in her eyes.
Just as she was plotting, Ian finished his conversation and returned. His expression was as cool and unreadable as ever. His eyes swept past Julian and Sebastian as he offered a polite nod. "I have a personal matter to attend to, so I need to leave early. Mr. Croix, let's catch up another time."
Julian's face instantly drained of color.
Sebastian's fingers halted on his crystal glass, his sharp eyes locking onto Ian.
Seraphina blurted out in shock, "You have a daughter? Are you married? Or is this a child out of wedlock with a girlfriend? Why hasn't anyone heard about this?"
She fired off every burning question.
In their elite circles, illegitimate children weren't exactly rare. Many women secured their futures by bearing an heir.
Gaining everything except an official title.
Ian clearly had no intention of explaining his private life. He gave a final nod. "My daughter is waiting at the entrance. I'll see you all next time."
Without another word.
The man turned on his heel and strode purposefully toward the exit.
Staring at Ian's retreating back, Julian's face darkened into a furious scowl.
His sister had just been cheated on?
