The sheer audacity of it all made Julian let out a dark, furious laugh.
Even if his sister hadn't returned home yet, the marriage pact between their families was an undeniable fact. Her disappearance wasn't the Yves family's fault, and if the Hudsons were planning to break their word, he sure as hell wasn't going to let it slide.
Deep down, he knew the logic was flawed.
Expecting Ian to wait indefinitely for a girl whose fate was unknown wasn't fair.
But Julian's loyalty lay entirely with his sister. He didn't care about fairness or Ian's perspective. He only cared that his sister was being wronged.
"I'm going to see for myself," Julian snarled, slamming his glass onto a passing waiter's tray.
The Hudson family had kept this a total secret.
For Ian to suddenly flaunt a daughter out of nowhere—Julian needed to see the proof with his own eyes.
"Mr. Yves, don't be impulsive! Maybe it's just a misunderstanding!" Seraphina quickly urged.
From Julian's murderous expression, it looked like he was ready to throw punches.
Sebastian's cold, grounding voice cut through the tension. "The Hudsons aren't some ordinary family, and Ian has never been known to act recklessly."
Even if the Hudsons couldn't wait any longer for the Yves heiress to be found.
They would have formally dissolved the engagement first.
They wouldn't sneak around having kids just to stab the Yves family in the back.
But one thing was absolute.
Sebastian's dark eyes narrowed as he stared at the doors.
Ian had deliberately dropped that bomb in front of them tonight. It wasn't a slip of the tongue.
That thought struck Julian as well.
He knew Ian's character.
If he were the type to sleep around, the engagement wouldn't have survived this long.
"I still need to know what I'm dealing with," Julian snapped, spinning around and marching toward the exit.
Seraphina, feeling completely overwhelmed by the explosive drama, turned to Sebastian. "Should we go after him?"
Sebastian set his drink down.
"Yes."
