The mention of the certificate brought the headache crashing back.
The slight smile vanished from Raelynn's face. "It's processed."
A brief flicker of emotion crossed Ian's eyes. "When are you planning to transfer Lily's registration?"
When he had legally claimed Lily to ease Raelynn's worries, they had signed an airtight contract. He was legally bound to cooperate and sign whatever documents she needed the moment she, as the biological mother, requested it.
Raelynn looked down, feeling entirely defeated. "There's a complication with my documents right now. It's going to have to wait a little while longer."
She didn't elaborate on the chaotic hostage situation with Matilda.
There was no need to drag Ian into the Croix family's toxic drama.
Ian kept his eyes on the road. "Is it difficult to resolve?"
"…It's fine. Just a matter of time."
"But the divorce is absolute?" he pressed.
Raelynn nodded firmly. "Absolute."
She was, legally and undeniably, a divorced woman.
This time, Ian didn't push for more details, knowing exactly when to drop a subject.
Raelynn didn't have Ian drop her off directly at the marital home. She asked him to pull over about a mile away from the estate, as the entire surrounding area was highly secure, private property belonging to the Croix family.
It wouldn't be appropriate for his car to be seen going any further.
"Whenever you have everything sorted out, just call me. I'm ready to sign whenever you need me," Ian said, keeping his hands on the wheel. He maintained a respectful, clear boundary, making sure not to add any unnecessary pressure to her life.
His professional detachment made Raelynn let out a sigh of relief.
She flashed him a bright, genuine smile, leaning down slightly to look through the window. "Thank you. Drive safe."
Ian's gaze lingered on her radiant face for a few seconds. "I will."
He reached into the back seat and handed her an elegant gift bag. "Your present."
Raelynn blinked in surprise. She actually got one too?
After a brief hesitation, she took it. Since he had bought something for everyone in the house, refusing it would just seem rude and overly dramatic. "Thank you."
"When I get back from Houston, let's sit down and have a proper talk," Ian added smoothly.
Before Raelynn could ask what they needed to talk about.
Ian's phone began to ring. He gave her a final nod and pulled away.
