Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 261

"It's urgent."

"For who?"

The question hung in the air.

Raelynn Ortiz paused in her tracks.

For a split second, she thought Sebastian Croix had caught onto something, but then she realized he was likely referring to something else. Perhaps...

Was it because Ian Hudson had just dropped her off?

She decided to play along. "Whatever you want to believe. It doesn't matter."

Silence fell between them again.

The only sound was their footsteps echoing in the night.

After what felt like an eternity, Sebastian seemed to lose interest in pressing the issue. Whether he didn't care or simply didn't believe her vague answer, he casually remarked, "Congratulations."

This time, Raelynn turned to look at him.

He met her gaze. "On the NexusMind Technologies pharmaceutical approval."

Understanding washed over her, and she let out a dry laugh. "Sebastian, there's no need for the passive-aggressive tone. Seraphina Vance didn't get her name on the project, and she's upset about it. Do you honestly expect me to believe you're genuinely congratulating me?"

He was just irritated that his precious girl had been wronged.

It wasn't a congratulations; it was a reprimand.

Raelynn's gaze sharpened, practically daring him to deny it.

Sebastian narrowed his eyes and let out a soft, humorless chuckle. "Sunny, are you actually offended, or are you just looking for an excuse to throw a temper tantrum?"

His dismissive, breezy attitude completely deflated her anger, leaving her with no opening to start a fight. It was like punching cotton—completely useless.

She had merely stated a fact, yet to him, she was the one being unreasonable.

She decided to stop talking altogether.

The two of them walked the rest of the way in silence, looking for all the world like an ordinary married couple taking an evening stroll.

But the atmosphere between them was stiff and freezing cold.

The moment they stepped inside the house, Sebastian unzipped his jacket and casually tossed out, "The 29th is Louis Flynn's eighty-fourth birthday. You're attending with me. The Croix Family has an upcoming partnership with the Flynn family."

Raelynn understood immediately. He needed her to play the part for the sake of the big picture.

The Flynn and Croix families were deeply connected, and the Flynns knew Sebastian was married. If she didn't show up, it would be highly disrespectful and raise questions.

Matilda Croix would also never allow her to throw a fit and skip the event.

But...

Raelynn shot him a look of sheer confusion.

Attending together...Didn't that mean publicly announcing her as Mrs. Croix?

Was Sebastian actually willing to do that?
