Louis Flynn's expression didn't undergo a dramatic shift, but his gaze sharpened into a hard, questioning stare. Seraphina Vance carefully studied his face, and seeing no obvious signs of hostility, she offered a gentle smile.
She nodded slowly. "It has been quite a while, so you might not remember me clearly. After all, it was during a charity outreach event. There were a lot of people coming and going, and the medical staff was incredibly busy. It's completely understandable."
The truth was, she didn't remember the faces of any of the patients she had treated.
She had only joined the Free Clinic Team because she knew there would be media coverage nearby.
It was just a PR move to get her face on camera.
Scores of elderly people had come in for checkups, and she hadn't paid attention to a single one of them.
But Leo Flynn had explicitly told her that she had saved his grandfather's life. If he was handing her such a massive favor, she was absolutely going to use it to her advantage.
Seraphina looked perfectly poised and utterly convincing.
But Louis Flynn slowly turned his piercing gaze toward Sebastian Croix, who was standing quietly to the side. "Sebastian, your wife has quite the audacity."
Did this girl think he was on his deathbed back then? Did she think he was so delirious he wouldn't even recognize his own savior?
He couldn't believe it.
To think the young Mrs. Croix was such a glory-hound and a pathological liar!
She had tried to claim the credit without skipping a beat, acting as if she had single-handedly dragged him back from the brink. What did she take him for? A senile old fool? Blind and deaf?
In Louis's mind, anyone standing next to Sebastian at a high-profile event like this—and brought directly to him for a personal introduction—had to be the man's wife. Who else could it be?
Meeting the old man's furious glare, Sebastian remained completely unfazed. "You must be joking. We are solely here to celebrate your birthday. I know very little about the matter you two are discussing."
Seraphina sensed the sharp edge in Louis's words.
But because the old man kept his temper tightly leashed, she simply assumed he had genuinely accepted her as Sebastian's wife. The thought filled her with a rush of triumph.
Her smile grew even sweeter. "I'm not bringing it up to demand anything in return, sir. Seeing you in such robust health is the only reward I need."
Louis Flynn had weathered decades of storms and seen through every kind of person imaginable.
Did she really think she could play games with him?
Out of respect for the Croix Family's prestige and Sebastian's dignity as a husband, he didn't outright kick her out of the room. But he had absolutely no desire to entertain her any further. He turned his back on them and said coldly, "That's enough. Go find your seats and have some tea."
