Seraphina was momentarily stunned.
But she quickly rationalized it. She frequently appeared in medical interviews and documentaries. The industry's top figures surely kept an eye on those programs.
Naturally, he had seen her, and likely admired her.
Her heart swelled with pride, realizing her ultimate goal was well within reach.
"It is my absolute honor to have left an impression on you. Anyone in the medical field dreams of receiving guidance from a mentor like yourself."
Dr. Moreno offered a cryptic smile. "Shane Vance is your brother, isn't he? I heard he threw a fit in my clinic last month and smashed quite a few of my valuable items."
Seraphina's flawless smile froze instantly.
She went completely rigid.
She had entirely forgotten about that incident.
Since there had been no follow-up and she hadn't suffered any losses, she had completely wiped it from her memory.
Having it dragged up now sent a jolt of panic through her.
Sebastian remained unruffled. He looked at Dr. Moreno. "The Vance family spoils the boy a bit too much. My apologies for the spectacle. By the way, how is that new batch of medical equipment Longstride supplied to your hospital working out?"
Raelynn instantly remembered.
Back when Seraphina and that grad student from Kingsford University accidentally administered the wrong medication to Shane, almost throwing NexusMind under the bus, Sebastian had stepped in to fix it. He had gifted the hospital top-of-the-line equipment worth over a hundred million dollars.
Only then did the hospital administration drop their pursuit of the damages Seraphina had nearly caused to their reputation.
Dr. Moreno remembered perfectly well, his refined smile unwavering. "Everyone knows Mr. Croix's Longstride is an industry leader in medical equipment. Exporting to so many developed countries, it certainly gives our patients a better experience."
He then shifted his gaze to Seraphina, adjusting his glasses. "Now that Mr. Croix mentions it, I do recall that the mess Ms. Vance caused back then wasn't exactly a small one. Young people should really keep their feet on the ground."
Seraphina's cheeks burned.
He hadn't said anything overly harsh, but it made her skin crawl.
Being publicly reminded of a scandal that nearly landed her in jail...
She tried to convince herself he wasn't mocking her. Given his status, he had no real reason to hold a grudge. He was probably just offering tough love because he recognized her talent.
If it hadn't been for Raelynn's documentary-filmmaking friend, she never would have been in that mess to begin with.
She pressed her lips together and shot Raelynn a glare.
Resentment simmered beneath the surface, but she kept it hidden, smoothing out her expression. "Thank you for the reminder. Actually, I came over specifically to apologize to you for that."
She put on a deeply sincere act.
Having lived over half a century and met every type of person under the sun, Dr. Moreno could spot an opportunist from a mile away.
He acted as if he hadn't heard her, turning directly to Raelynn. "Come over to the house for dinner after this wraps up?"
Seraphina stiffened in awkward silence.
She hadn't expected him to completely ignore her apology. And instead invite Raelynn to his... home?
Catching Raelynn's reaction, Seraphina smirked, raising an eyebrow.
She found Raelynn's shock pathetic.
It only proved how far beneath her Raelynn truly was.
She had the credentials to apply directly as his student, while Raelynn did not.
After all, Raelynn's major wasn't even the right fit. If she wanted to survive in this circle, her foundation was already flawed.
It was a shame she couldn't hitch her wagon to Professor Finch to boost her reputation.
But Dr. Moreno was his senior disciple—powerful, famous, and backed by a massive hospital network. If she became his star pupil, her Triage Robot could bypass endless regulatory red tape and launch straight into his hospital. It would serve as massive, free advertising.
From there, major hospitals everywhere would follow suit and adopt her product.
She needed a high-level launching pad, and whether it was Professor Finch or Dr. Moreno, both were perfect.
She didn't even need to worry about Raelynn's ridiculous fantasy project at NexusMind. A project with that many technical roadblocks was doomed to fail. Once her robot launched, the gap between them would become painfully obvious.
Dr. Moreno looked Seraphina up and down.
"You're free to apply if you wish. As for the outcome, that will be decided by the entire panel of professors during the interview."
And when that time came.
Once Raelynn's paperwork cleared, she might very well be sitting on that interview panel.
