Julian seemed to realize how absurd his demand sounded.
Frustrated, he pinched the bridge of his nose and let out an exasperated laugh. "Raelynn really knows how to create problems. I thought Ian had been brainwashed by some random woman, but it turns out the culprit was right under my nose—"
He caught himself, realizing how inappropriate that sounded.
After all, Sebastian was still Raelynn's husband of many years.
Julian turned to look at him.
Despite his completely unreasonable requests, Sebastian hadn't shown a flicker of anger or surprise.
Even when he accused Raelynn of seducing Ian, Sebastian remained... unnervingly calm.
Sebastian merely gazed off in another direction.
Julian followed his line of sight.
The hall was packed, and it took him a good moment to spot Raelynn's back in the crowd. That was exactly who Sebastian was watching.
He couldn't help but marvel, "You've got damn good eyesight."
"It's an easy fix," Sebastian replied flatly, completely ignoring Julian's previous comment.
Julian looked at him. "You agree? You'll stall Raelynn? Put the divorce on hold?"
He fired off the questions in rapid succession.
Sebastian didn't give a direct answer. Instead, he said slowly, "Ian's managed to keep his illegitimate daughter a secret for years, but suddenly clues are popping up everywhere. There are a few ways to interpret that, but one is that it's intentional. He likely never had any intention of marrying your sister. He's using the kid to force your family to break the engagement yourselves."
Julian's eye twitched. He was forced to confront the harsh reality.
Sebastian's logic was... undeniable.
He had been too emotionally invested in his anger toward Raelynn to see the bigger picture.
It was like a lightbulb went off in Julian's head.
Every word out of Sebastian's mouth was a revelation.
If Ian refused to marry his sister to the point of having a child out of wedlock, but still didn't marry the mother, it meant he either didn't want to or couldn't. But what mother would just quietly accept having her child taken away?
If she returned to raise hell, Ian's supposed new romance would crash and burn.
Moreover, if the birth mother caused a massive scandal, the Hudson family would be outed as the guilty party.
They would be forced to give the Yves family an apology and an explanation.
Instead of Julian's family being held hostage by Ian's whims.
"You're always the guy to talk to for this kind of thing," Julian said, clinking his glass against Sebastian's.
