Raelynn couldn't help but let out a quiet scoff at the sheer manipulation in those words.
It was certainly designed to let people's imaginations run wild.
Sure enough, someone took the bait. "Does that mean we'll be hearing wedding bells soon? Are you planning to have kids?"
Seraphina gave a sweet, playful smile. "Oh, stop teasing us."
She cast a fleeting, deliberate glance at Raelynn. "My career is going to be very demanding lately. You might not know, but I've set up an independent project team at Longstride Technologies. I need to be completely focused on my work. Personal matters will have to wait, and I know the people by my side will be understanding."
A wave of envy rippled through the crowd.
They instantly caught the implication in Seraphina's words. "Mr. Croix treats Ms. Vance so well. He always puts her first."
"In other words, they're so secure in their relationship that Ms. Vance can throw herself into her career without a second thought. That's the ultimate confidence of a woman who knows she is deeply loved."
When women gathered, the gossip naturally drifted in this direction.
Seraphina didn't deny it, her smile radiant.
Raelynn wasn't stupid; she understood the hidden message perfectly.
Sebastian was willing to wait until her career was settled before discussing marriage.
She turned her head.
And unexpectedly locked eyes with Sebastian.
He hadn't joined the conversation, nor had he bothered to deny anything.
It was as if he hadn't caught Seraphina's hints at all—or worse, he had, and was actively indulging her.
Raelynn immediately looked away, turning to Ian. "Should we go walk around?"
Ian nodded. He had zero interest in their messy drama either.
Seraphina caught them leaving out of the corner of her eye. She glanced at Sebastian and noticed he merely gave them a brief look before turning away, completely unbothered by Raelynn parading around with another man right in front of him. Seraphina raised an eyebrow and smiled.
A man of Ian's status couldn't possibly be genuinely interested in a divorced woman like Raelynn.
There was only one logical explanation: he was looking for an obedient stepmother for his daughter, and Raelynn's standards were rock bottom.
She was clearly still keeping him at arm's length. Ian noticed it but didn't force the issue. He simply said, "She's my daughter too, Raelynn. I adore her just as much as you do."
Raelynn froze.
The remark left her completely unsure of how to respond.
Luckily.
Lily came jogging back, clutching three identical LinaBell headbands. She handed one to each of them. "Family headbands! Let's all wear them together!"
Raelynn looked at the fluffy pink headband, then at Ian's cold, handsome face. The contrast was far too jarring. She quickly bent down. "Sweetie, how about we pick a different style?"
Ian didn't mind at all. He stretched the headband with both hands and slid it onto his head. "No need. As long as Lily likes it."
Lily's eyes curved into happy little crescents.
She looked at Raelynn proudly. "Look, Mommy, Daddy loves it! Put yours on too!"
But that sudden, loud 'Mommy' caused Sebastian, who was just walking past, to stop dead in his tracks.
