The little girl was upset.
If she hadn't fought to protect her headband, her mom wouldn't have been so scared and almost gotten hurt.
Lily cast a guilty look at Sebastian, whose white shirt was stained crimson with wine and blood.
"This isn't your fault, sweetie. You didn't push the table," Raelynn told her firmly, making sure every word was loud and clear.
Her pointed remark clearly hit a nerve.
Seraphina glared at her coldly. "You dragged Sebastian down with you just to save your own skin!"
Ian's eyes frosted over at the accusation.
Knowing things were about to get ugly, he gave Raelynn a reassuring nod and covered Lily's ears.
Raelynn thought she had misheard.
She turned and met Seraphina's icy stare.
The surrounding guests were finally recovering from the shock.
They had all been terrified.
A towering glass display crashing down was no joke.
And Seraphina's loud accusation snapped them out of their bewilderment over why Sebastian Croix had risked his life to shield a random woman.
So Raelynn had grabbed him and used him as a human shield? That explained the dramatic rescue they had just witnessed.
The sweet smile was gone from Seraphina's face, replaced by burning indignation. "You literally ripped his clothes! Do you really have to drag innocent people down with you just to save yourself?"
At her words, the crowd stared.
It was true—the front of Sebastian's shirt was crumpled and violently bunched up.
But the situation was incredibly awkward for the onlookers.
On one side was Mr. Croix's girlfriend; on the other was Mr. Hudson's new flame. Offending either woman was a terrible idea.
Noticing the crowd's attention, Seraphina softened her tone, adopting an air of magnanimous grace. "Sebastian was standing right next to me. He was about to pull me to safety, but you panicked and grabbed him first, leaving me directly in the line of fire. But that's fine. It was an accident, and I'm just glad no one was seriously hurt. However, Raelynn, instead of being grateful, you're trying to shift the blame onto someone else. Don't you think that's incredibly low?"
Raelynn had just loudly declared that it wasn't Lily's fault.
