It was the attitude of a woman who knew she was untouchable.
It made Raelynn's aggressive demands look like the ravings of a bitter clown.
After all, Seraphina had a billionaire shielding her.
A mocking sneer touched the corner of Raelynn's eyes.
She slowly looked at Sebastian, who seemed to sense her gaze, locking eyes with her once again.
It was in this exact moment that Raelynn finally understood.
His heroic dive to save her earlier hadn't been an act of love or special treatment. It was merely the primal instinct of a man protecting a woman in danger. Any stranger would have done the same, let alone a man she had been married to for seven years.
That was an unconscious reflex.
But this—stepping in without a second thought to throw millions of dollars at the venue owner just to save Seraphina from embarrassment—this was intentional. This was a deliberate, calculated act of extreme favoritism.
It fueled Seraphina's arrogance.
Raelynn didn't know what to say.
Any comeback would just look like a desperate attempt to save face.
"Mr. Croix is simply paying for the destruction caused by Ms. Vance's brother. Reimbursing damages is basic common decency. I highly doubt Ms. Vance would mistake a man cleaning up her mess for a romantic gesture," Ian said as he slowly walked over.
Lily was holding his hand.
As he walked, he unbuttoned his suit jacket, slipped it off, and draped it over Raelynn's shivering shoulders.
Raelynn snapped out of her daze. She had been splashed with wine as well. She nodded at him. "Thank you."
Ian's words pierced right through Seraphina, causing her triumphant smile to stiffen.
She felt like he was mocking her.
But if she argued back, it would just make her look petty and classless.
Yet Ian's face gave away absolutely nothing.
Sebastian lowered his gaze to the little girl standing next to Ian and remained silent.
Raelynn was half a second away from kicking the kid across the room.
But someone else was faster.
A large hand grabbed Shane by the collar, hauling him back.
She looked over.
It was Sebastian. He looked down at the boy with an expressionless face. "Go change your clothes with your sister."
Terrified by Sebastian's freezing gaze, Shane didn't dare act out again. He quickly scurried over and grabbed Seraphina's hand.
Seraphina was stunned that Sebastian had scolded her brother to protect another man's kid. Her face tightened, but she quickly rationalized it. They were in public; he had to play the fair peacekeeper.
Raelynn was surprised as well.
Ian picked Lily up, locking eyes with Sebastian. "Thank you, Mr. Croix, for stepping in for my daughter."
"My daughter." He said it so naturally. Sebastian held Ian's gaze, neither man giving an inch.
