She absolutely refused to give Raelynn the satisfaction of looking smug.
After a chilling sneer, Seraphina said, "Then it's settled. Mr. Moreno, I look forward to a successful partnership. When we're close to launch, please do introduce me to the brilliant Faye."
Preston cleared his throat into his fist, shooting a quick look at Raelynn. "We can discuss that."
Seraphina signed the papers.
Raelynn glanced at the signature, her face impassive.
Seraphina picked up her copy of the contract and stood, looking down her nose at Raelynn. "It's obvious that no matter how much you try to interfere, NexusMind won't become your personal plaything. You can't stop a mutually beneficial business deal. You'd be better off saving your energy and figuring out how to improve yourself."
If it hadn't been for Raelynn pulling strings behind the scenes, this deal would have been finalized ages ago.
She had jumped through all those hoops, but who could she actually control? Faye? NexusMind? In the end, all she could do was watch helplessly as Seraphina succeeded.
She was nothing but a clown.
Dropping that parting shot, Seraphina let out a light laugh and walked out.
Preston gave Raelynn a thumbs-up. "You're good. Poking at her pride just right so she'd sign a brutal contract just to save face. You didn't leave her a single way out."
The bad blood between the two women guaranteed that Seraphina would never allow herself to look weak or lose face in front of Raelynn.
And now that she had signed it, she couldn't afford a single mistake.
If she failed, not only would her project go up in smoke, but that massive sum of money would be gone forever.
It was a beautifully ruthless move.
Raelynn's little interruption earlier had clearly been a masterclass in calculated provocation.
Raelynn shrugged. "No one put a gun to her head. She knows exactly how much value my database adds to her work. She's chasing fame and fortune; why should we run a charity?"
Besides, part of Seraphina's funding was coming directly from Sebastian. With pockets that deep right in front of her, Raelynn would have been doing herself a disservice if she didn't squeeze them a bit.
In truth, Raelynn didn't care who used her database. For her, it was always a win-win situation; she was the beneficiary regardless.
She used to harbor a deep resentment toward the other woman, but now she had moved past it. Those people simply didn't matter anymore.
