Dr. Evelyn Hayes met Raelynn's earnest, genuine gaze, her heart softening as she gently squeezed the younger woman's hand. "You're right. She'll come back to us eventually. When my granddaughter was born, I commissioned a flawless Imperial Green Peace Amulet for her. It's meant to keep her safe and healthy."
Raelynn had grown up surrounded by antiques and jade.
She had seen plenty of peace amulets at The Winslow Antique Shop.
"A peace amulet?" Seraphina Vance chimed in.
Dr. Hayes either didn't hear her or simply chose to ignore it. She sighed and stood up. "I'll leave you all to chat."
Seraphina's smile stiffened.
Did the older woman really just happen to miss that?
Dr. Hayes waved at Julian. "Come out here with me for a second."
Julian didn't dare refuse. Following her out, he sighed helplessly. "Grandma, Ms. Vance came here with Sebastian. You could at least give her a little respect."
He could tell his grandmother harbored a deep, instinctual disgust for women who intervened in other people's relationships.
Dr. Hayes scoffed coldly. "If I truly wanted to disrespect her, I would have had her thrown out. I don't need you telling me how to behave."
Julian knew the matriarch's temper. Even Matilda Croix had been forced to swallow her pride around her back in the day.
Uninterested in Seraphina's drama, Dr. Hayes clasped her hands behind her back. "Did you invest in that new project at NexusMind Technologies?"
"No," Julian replied casually. "Industry evaluations say the success rate is low."
Dr. Hayes frowned, slapping the back of his head. "Short-sighted! Even the National Academy of Traditional Medicine is sending experts to reinforce them, and you think it's just child's play? This aligns with national policy trends. Go do your research and open your eyes."
He was her grandson, after all. She would guide him when necessary.
A flash of surprise crossed Julian's eyes. For his grandmother to hold it in such high regard...
Was NexusMind really harboring some hidden genius about to make a massive move?
Having said her piece, Dr. Hayes waved him off and went to mingle with the executives.
Standing by the door, Julian glanced back inside at Raelynn.
Just then.
The Assistant walked over and murmured, "Mr. Yves, Mr. Hudson is arriving shortly."
A chilling coldness swept through Raelynn's eyes.
Luke didn't seem to notice. In a great mood, he strolled toward her. "Today isn't the right time. This is The Yves Family's turf, Dr. Hayes's event. It's a bit too formal. We can talk after this wraps up."
He had been thrilled when Raelynn arranged to meet him here privately.
He had been annoyed lately over her archery session with Sebastian Croix.
But since she had turned around and sought him out, he figured there was no point holding a grudge.
Raelynn stared at him slowly. "We? What do you mean, 'we'?"
Meeting her frosty, beautiful eyes, Luke's heart inexplicably sank. He instinctively grabbed her wrist, opening his mouth to explain.
Suddenly, the door to the room swung wide open.
Raelynn's heart leaped into her throat as she spun around.
She was met with a crowd of people standing in the doorway.
And right at the front of the pack stood Sebastian Croix and Ian Hudson.
