Sebastian's words, claiming she 'despises' the situation, made Raelynn's face stiffen involuntarily.
She had stopped caring a long time ago!
There was no need for him to paint her as some tragically devoted wife, making it sound like she was still desperately clinging to him and their broken marriage. Painting her as nothing more than a pathetic, weeping victim.
Hearing this specific narrative from his lips felt utterly absurd. He spoke it so blatantly, proving her theory that he truly didn't believe he was doing anything to hurt her.
Now he was just writing a script for her to play along with.
Her expression remained frozen, a denial ready on her tongue.
But Sebastian was already looking down at her, his dark eyes shadowed. "Therefore, I am perfectly aware that I am in the wrong here."
She instantly swallowed her words, narrowing her eyes at him.
Cyrus and Matilda stared at Sebastian. "What are you getting at?"
Sebastian took Raelynn's hand, guiding her to the sofa so she could sit and recover from her dizziness. "Raelynn is fiercely uncompromising," he said indifferently. "If the media finds out about Seraphina's history with the family, the fallout will be catastrophic. Furthermore, her relationship with Faye is her own private business. The Croix family has no right to demand she exploit her personal connections."
Matilda's face soured violently at the mention of the 'family history scandal.'
There was absolutely no way they could let that disgusting secret leak to the press!
Cyrus analyzed his deeply calculating son. "You already have a plan?"
Sebastian sat directly beside Raelynn, finally turning to look at her. "Since we are practically divorced, the Croix family has no logical right to exploit her. If we want this issue resolved, we trade something of equal value."
Matilda was deeply displeased.
In her eyes, Raelynn was merely an expendable junior with no backing and no powerful family to protect her. She had no right to throw a tantrum or demand compensation. Why should the family waste valuable resources on her?
Raelynn was genuinely taken aback.
Had Sebastian suddenly discovered his conscience?
Such a thing was completely unprecedented in their elite circles!
Wives of powerful families were either imprisoned in their gilded cages for life, or brutally stripped of everything upon leaving, tossed aside with absolutely nothing.
They certainly weren't gifted an entire multi-million dollar tech company on their way out!
"Sebastian! Longstride is at its peak. Raelynn knows absolutely nothing about running a business. She couldn't handle it!" Matilda raged, practically vibrating with anger.
To her, Raelynn was practically a street orphan. Giving her a golden goose in a divorce was pure insanity. Was the Croix family running a charity?!
Raelynn was equally dumbfounded.
But she kept her mouth shut, staring in pure confusion at Sebastian, who remained coolly unfazed.
He poured himself a cup of honey tea from the table. "Then how do you suggest we put out this fire?"
Pushing the cup toward Raelynn, he leaned back in his chair, his tone slow and calculated. "My explanation tonight was elegant enough, but no one out there is stupid. Do you honestly believe they bought the lie that Seraphina and I are just colleagues? Need I remind you, Grandma, that you publicly claimed her as a protégé of the Croix family? You hinted she might join us one day. You valued her because she was useful, so you endorsed her. Now that she's radioactive, she's a double-edged sword aimed straight at our throats."
