The word hung in the air, catching everyone completely off guard.
Sebastian narrowed his eyes, locking his gaze with hers.
He saw the deliberate, biting mockery swirling in Raelynn's eyes.
He remained entirely silent.
Raelynn had thrown the word out like a grenade.
She wanted to completely disgust these despicable people.
She knew exactly what triggered them the most.
Blanche had been acting so entitled, blatantly flaunting the fact that Sebastian would fix their mess, using the phrase "name your price" to rub it in Raelynn's face that her own "husband" was going to pay to silence her.
Raelynn was astounded by their shamelessness.
Since they cared so much about Sebastian's allegiance, parading their future "son-in-law" around to assert dominance.
Why should she let them have their way?
Her sudden use of the word "Husband" brutally shattered their little illusion of victory.
Seraphina's eyes flashed with fierce, barely contained rage.
She quickly glanced around the area.
Since a fair number of people knew about Raelynn and Sebastian's marriage, Seraphina couldn't risk starting a public shouting match, or it would trigger a media disaster.
But Raelynn was acting so utterly shameless!
She knew exactly what her relationship with Sebastian was, yet she dared to claim him so intimately in public. She had absolutely no boundaries!
"You!" Blanche's face turned thunderous, realizing Raelynn was openly slapping them in the face. "Raelynn, if you can't succeed in your career, why are you so desperate to play the pampered wife?"
Raelynn wanted to laugh.
A single word had driven them absolutely insane.
And now they were trying to take the moral high ground.
"Then what does that make your daughter, who constantly relies on someone else's husband and spends someone else's money? A leech? A parasite? In that regard, I definitely can't compete with her 'skills.'"
Raelynn refused to lose a verbal spar.
Seraphina's expression grew even darker.
She was practically suffocating on her own rage.
Raelynn was blatantly tearing her to shreds.
Even Leo was stunned. How did Raelynn have the nerve?
In the past, Raelynn had never been allowed to show any public affection toward Sebastian, let alone call him her husband.
Raelynn was equally thrown off by his sudden show of concern. She dropped a blunt reply: "No."
"Alright," Sebastian said, offering not a single extra word.
He didn't try to persuade her or coax her.
It sounded like nothing more than hollow politeness.
Completely devoid of sincerity.
Before Raelynn could process it, he turned and strode away.
Chloe was practically vibrating with anger. "What the hell is his problem? It sounded like he couldn't wait for you to stay away."
Raelynn understood that perfectly.
She shrugged indifferently. "It's not my home anymore anyway."
They hadn't walked far.
When Leo caught up with them.
His expression was conflicted. "Raelynn, it's just a simple background check release. It's not that hard, is it?"
He desperately needed to shift the public's focus from the project onto the two experts, saving the investment so they could quietly resume the rollout later.

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
