It was genuinely bizarre.
Raelynn couldn't fathom what on earth Sebastian could possibly want with her. Their marriage had deteriorated to such a toxic state that even basic courtesy was extinct.
And lately,
whenever Sebastian reached out to her,
it was never, ever for anything good.
She stared at the glowing screen for a long moment.
Then, she hit decline.
Especially after what he had pulled at the antique shop today, she highly doubted they had anything constructive to discuss.
Unsurprisingly,
her rejection didn't seem to faze him. It was as if he had only called to test the waters and gauge her reaction. Once she hung up, he didn't bother trying again.
He didn't care why she ignored him.
In Sebastian's mind, he had absolutely no obligation to show her an ounce of "care."
The next morning,
Raelynn received a call bright and early from Dr. Adrian Moreno.
"Come to Kingsford Medical University at ten today. We're hosting a top-tier event—The Kingsford Medical Symposium. Since you're about to officially become an associate professor, you need to attend. We're discussing pharmaceutical R&D and smart medical tech. Be prepared."
Raelynn was instantly wide awake.
The Kingsford Medical Symposium was a gathering of the absolute titans of the domestic medical field.
The entry requirements were impossibly strict. Aside from the industry elites, the only students allowed were the top one percent who had brutally fought their way to the top of their programs.
It wasn't a place just anyone could walk into.
Raelynn jumped out of bed and rushed to the bathroom. "Understood."
Before heading out,
Raelynn opened her storage cabinet, grabbed a small bottle of specialized medicinal pills she had spent years formulating, and tossed it into her bag.
Since the theme included drug development, they might come in handy for the discussion.
Kingsford Medical University's security was notoriously tight. Director Moreno was supposed to come out and hand her a VIP pass, but he got tied up with an emergency and couldn't leave the hall.
He texted her to grab a temporary badge from the front office instead.
Julian watched her with a heavy gaze.
After everything that went down at The Yves Garden Estate, his feelings toward Raelynn were incredibly conflicted.
"Are things over between you and Ian Hudson?" he blurted out right as she was about to leave.
After all, her marriage to Sebastian was public knowledge now.
A proud, arrogant man like Ian wouldn't logically keep pursuing a married woman.
Raelynn knew exactly what kind of answer Julian was hoping for. She turned her head, her voice sharp. "Do you operate on double standards, Julian? You seem awfully obsessed with whether my morals are in check, practically praying for us to break it off. Why don't I see you rushing off to lecture Sebastian and Seraphina on their public indecency?"
Julian froze.
Raelynn was already striding away.
But as she turned the corner toward the main hall,
she nearly bumped into two people.
The moment she saw Sebastian,
Raelynn's heart gave a vicious twinge. It wasn't for him, but for the fifteen Winslow antiques he had weaponized against her. The memory turned her eyes to absolute ice. She didn't slow her pace, walking straight past him as if he were a ghost.
