Chloe thought that made sense and hastily wiped her eyes. "Should I tell my brother? I'm worried the Tanner family might try to retaliate."
Raelynn stopped her. "There's no need. Mr. Hudson has his hands full overseas, and besides, this is my problem. Sebastian was the one who threw the punches, so he'll handle the fallout."
She was certain of that, at least.
Sebastian wouldn't just leave a mess behind.
Chloe knew Raelynn had a lot on her plate.
But she had done some digging on Theon Tanner before coming over. "This Theon guy grew up abroad. He's a total mess, completely devoid of morals. He's crossed every legal line imaginable but puts up a good front. The Tanner family spoils him rotten. It's highly likely he's even involved with illegal substances over there."
Raelynn hadn't realized Theon was that disgusting.
"Of course, no one dares leak that kind of stuff," Chloe continued. "He only came back to the country to find a wife so he could fight for his inheritance. The Tanner family is dividing their assets right now, and he needs to get married ASAP to secure a bigger share. You were totally used."
In other words, anyone in their social circle would have easily uncovered Theon's true colors.
No respectable family would let their daughter marry him.
It all clicked for Raelynn.
She had been traded away as a favor?
Did Matilda know about Theon's background? Or did she know Theon would try something like that with her?
Whether Matilda knew the specifics or not, she undoubtedly knew what kind of man Theon was, yet she still used Raelynn as a bargaining chip to cozy up to the Tanner family, throwing her straight into the lion's den.
Raelynn let out a bitter scoff.
Just how vicious could people be?
They knew she was desperate for the divorce certificate, so they seized the chance to wring every last drop of value out of her.
Raelynn didn't stay at the hospital for long.
She was discharged that same morning.
She needed to make a trip to the main Croix estate.
The nightmare had happened, but she was going to get what she was owed.
Chloe wanted to march in with her for support.
Raelynn didn't want to drag this out. She said bluntly, "Give me the divorce certificate, and we can forget this ever happened."
That was her only goal.
Once she had it, she could finalize Lily's paperwork, and everything would finally be over!
Matilda's face twisted with displeasure.
But she knew the stakes.
If she refused, Raelynn would blow the whole thing up, and both families would be publicly disgraced.
She waved a hand.
The old butler stepped forward and placed a dark red booklet on the table in front of Raelynn.
It was the first time Raelynn had laid eyes on her and Sebastian's divorce certificate.
In that moment, her blood surged.
Her heart pounded wildly.
Without a second of hesitation, she snatched it up, gripping it tightly. "Then I won't take up any more of your time."

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
Literally on edge!...
