Because of her background, Raelynn Ortiz was already a prominent figure at Kingsford University. The spotlight was always on her. So, the moment the anonymous post hit the internet, it exploded. The scandal spread through the campus like wildfire, bringing with it a tidal wave of vicious and ugly comments.
Preston Moreno's expression darkened. At this critical juncture, Raelynn was not only being accused of plagiarizing Faye's paper but also exposed as the other woman in Faye's relationship. This wasn't just a smear campaign; it was a brutal, calculated execution aimed at destroying her completely. The orchestrator wanted her blacklisted from the academic world and her personal life ripped to shreds. They were roasting her alive on a spit, weaponizing Faye's legendary status to turn Raelynn into a public enemy. It was utterly toxic.
The malicious post had already gained massive traction. Many of the attendees were Kingsford alumni, and as they scrolled through their phones, their gazes snapped toward Raelynn, dripping with contempt. Hushed, accusatory whispers filled the room. "Wow, who would've thought? She just leeched off Faye's entire life?"
Seraphina Vance easily sensed the shifting atmosphere in the hall. Watching Raelynn from a distance, the corners of her lips curled into a subtle, triumphant smirk. She knew it. Raelynn was finished. Once the dust settled, Raelynn's top-ranked paper would be disqualified, bumping Seraphina's own work up to first place. That was why she hadn't panicked when Raelynn took the lead—it was nothing more than a fleeting moment of glory.
So what if Raelynn had her time in the sun? Now she was public enemy number one, crushed firmly beneath Seraphina's heel. Stripped of her prestigious professorship, Raelynn would have absolutely nothing left to brag about.
"Medicine isn't like other fields," Seraphina's voice rang out again, cutting through the murmurs. "It deals with thousands of precious lives. There have been cases where academic fraud led to delayed treatments, costing patients their lives. Therefore, I believe this issue regarding Ms. Ortiz must be handled with the utmost severity!"
Raelynn's reputation was ruined. After this symposium wrapped up, Sebastian Croix was supposed to accompany Seraphina to her show. Today was the day they would make their relationship official. Given the current scandal, Sebastian would undoubtedly distance himself from Raelynn like she was a plague, and the Croix family would completely sever ties with her. Seraphina was about to reap all the rewards.
With that thought, she turned toward Sebastian, who was seated not too far away. He slowly stood up and began walking toward her and Raelynn. Seraphina's heart fluttered. She assumed he was finally making his choice between the two of them. Flashing him a radiant smile, she reached her hand out toward him.
Right at that moment, an angry shout echoed through the hall. "You're a menace! Get the hell out of our industry!"
A young man on the periphery, completely riled up by Seraphina's speech, couldn't hold back anymore. He grabbed a heavy, hard-backed folder and hurled it viciously at Raelynn.
It flew through the air with dangerous speed. Instinctively, Raelynn raised her arms to protect her face.
Professor Alistair Finch slammed his hands on the table, shooting to his feet in panic.
