Dr. Hayes cut straight through the crowd and stopped in front of Raelynn, her eyes bright and affectionate. "My dear Raelynn, I knew waiting for you to come find me would take all night. I had to come to you first."
This was exactly what she loved about Raelynn: her impeccable sense of boundaries. Raelynn knew perfectly well that if she asked, Dr. Hayes would move mountains to help her achieve whatever she wanted. Yet, she never asked.
That kind of integrity was incredibly rare.
Raelynn immediately offered a radiant smile. "I saw how busy you were."
Dr. Hayes chuckled softly. "Just chatting with old friends. Hardly busy."
Turning her attention, Dr. Hayes looked at the man standing beside her. "Mr. Hudson."
"Chairwoman Hayes, it's been a while," Ian replied politely.
A flicker of complexity crossed the older woman's eyes. "Are you and Raelynn..."
She had only recently learned about Raelynn's history with Sebastian. And yet, Ian had made it clear to her a long time ago that he had his heart set on Raelynn.
The tangled web of relationships was enough to make her head spin.
"We're planning to get married," Ian stated plainly.
Dr. Hayes looked taken aback. She immediately turned to Raelynn for confirmation. "Then what about you and the Croix family..."
Raelynn leaned in close and whispered softly, "Divorced."
Dr. Hayes immediately squeezed Raelynn's hand tightly. "You did the right thing. A marriage without love can't sustain itself for long."
But soon after, a complicated melancholy washed over her. Her posture seemed to sag slightly.
In the past, she had fiercely held onto the marriage contract with the Hudson family. To outsiders, it looked selfish—refusing to let Ian move on, forcing him to wait for a granddaughter who had been missing for over twenty years.
In reality, it was simply a lifeline of hope. It felt like as long as the contract existed, the chances of her granddaughter returning to fulfill it grew just a little bit higher.
Blanche grabbed her daughter's hand firmly.
"Raelynn can enjoy her fifteen minutes of fame. But soon enough, she won't even be fit to carry your shoes!"
With that, she dragged Seraphina straight toward the group.
Watching this unfold from a distance, Julian frowned deeply.
He absolutely did not want Seraphina anywhere near his grandmother right now. It didn't take a genius to figure out why they were approaching. With the university expulsion hanging over Seraphina's head and Raelynn pressing charges, the only people in the industry powerful enough to save her were Professor Finch and his grandmother.
Without a second thought, Julian slammed his drink down and strode over to intercept them.
Sebastian, however, simply cast a languid glance in their direction. His eyes were unreadable.
Leo Flynn had connected the dots as well. Standing nearby, he muttered, "Seb? If Seraphina and her mother say the wrong thing and offend Chairwoman Hayes, it's not going to end well."

No, no, no! Sebastian needs to nip the Zella situation and win Raelynn back! Also, Leo, he is a wildcard for Sebastian's master plan... Sebastian- we know you know, what we know, win your family back!...
I thought now Sebastian and Raelynn will be together now that seraphina is not but you are not letting them to be. Two new female around Sebastian 😭...
I think Ian is sly. He is not what he seems. Sebastian loves Raelyn and they have a daughter together. Besides he has no family to even take care of him. I feel Raelyn should realise that Sebastian is only her true love and go back to him....
The croix family is evil...
