Raelynn was lost in thought.
She didn't regret saving Sebastian.
She didn't even regret marrying him, because if she hadn't, she never would have had her sweet Lily.
Her only regret was holding onto false hope and wasting seven long years of her life.
When she finally arrived at the hospital.
Chloe Hudson was still working in the hospital suite, and Lily was already asleep.
Seeing her walk in, Chloe immediately pressed a finger to her lips, motioning for silence before dragging Raelynn out into the hallway to chat. "Where have you been?"
Raelynn thought for a second before recounting the entire night's events to her.
Chloe looked shocked. "The Second Branch is that ruthless? I can't believe they'd pull something so vicious behind the scenes, but..."
She scoffed. "Isn't that just karma? Seraphina Vance brought this on herself. She did so many horrible things and nearly got Lily killed. It's fitting that she ran into monsters like the Second Branch. They started this mess together, and they ended up destroying each other."
It was the ultimate toxic pairing.
"Don't overthink it," Chloe said, giving Raelynn a comforting hug. "We were so furious when she got a temporary reprieve because of her pregnancy, but now she's ruined herself. After all the hell she went through, she still won't escape justice. A lawyer friend of mine said that with multiple charges piled up, she's looking at no less than twenty years."
Stealing trade secrets from the Croix family, kidnapping, and aggravated assault—none of those came with light sentences.
Raelynn nodded. "Blanche is going through the legal system now too. Some things just can't be outrun."
"Speaking of which," Chloe said, immediately opening her laptop. "Silas Vance was just taken into custody. It looks like the police found solid evidence proving he illegally acquired the antique shop's operational rights to launder money. His company's books are a total mess of off-the-record shady dealings. The whole family is going to have a reunion behind bars."
She found it incredibly satisfying.
Raelynn just stared at the news article.
Evidence...
Her mind immediately jumped to Sebastian.
After all, he had full control over the antique shop. The evidence could only have come from him.
The elevator doors slid open again.
Sebastian rolled out in his wheelchair.
The three of them suddenly found themselves face-to-face in the narrow corridor.
Raelynn pressed her lips into a hard line.
Sebastian's gaze swept over the oversized coat draped over Raelynn, his expression turning frosty. "Mr. Hudson. You're here early."
Ian turned to face him, a dangerous glint in his eye. "I've been a bit too busy to pay you a visit, Mr. Croix. But I should thank you in person. You did save my daughter, after all. I won't forget that favor."
"You've always been a man who keeps his accounts balanced, Mr. Hudson."
Sebastian's tone was dangerously calm and unhurried.
Tilting his head slightly, he caught Raelynn's guarded, hesitant look in his peripheral vision. He let out a slow breath. "Since you've made your position clear, why don't we have a formal chat?"

I think for as slow as the beginning was, their turning point is just so fast... really hope we actually get to read about R and S and their rekindle.... we did not read 950 pages for their story to be sidelined. Im for this sideline story, but it if it's to separate from the main characters and their story, please make it separate book....
Author please update more chapters...
I really like Zella, she is becoming a good friend to Raelynn. Ian needs to go. The relationship with Chloe is confusing. Some chapters they are cousins, sometimes they're sibling. A little confusing....
Julians role as big brother- I feel comes from a genuine place, but in a relationship thats is just as stained as Raelynns and Sebastians. It hard for me to connect to his big brother role as he too was such a problem before. And while they talked a little bit, the conversation did not give me the believe there was resolution between Raelynn and Julian. For a brute, he should make his feelings clear about the situation to Raelynn and then step back, until there is more foundation for him to stand on....
Knife in my heart. I hurt for Raelynn. She has made it this far, but how much does she have in her, everyone has a breaking point. Some back of me hopes the author is joking to lighten the mood after so many intense chapters, but thats not this kind of story or couple....
My heart cannot take this. This, cannot be how it ends with these too. They need resolution with each other. Raelynn needs to be more humanize with Sebastian. We know she is hurt, but this is the branch. She needs all these answers, if not for them to be together, then for Lily to have both her parents. Stop with the mind games Raelynn!...
Its like the story is just repeating itself...
Timeline is getting lost for me. So many treasured little memories Raelynn has but yet, he was gone for years ? Anyways... still rooting for them! These two need a heart to heart. Lily "forgetting" someone, not possible in this day and age and I hope thats not their storyline....
Sebastian, the man of few words.... needs to find all the words! Needs to fight for her! On note, seven years seems like a long time for this master plan (which I am sure goes back much farther). Rereading this novel, and it seems like everything has played out in a 5-8 month time span. And I feel like all Sebastian's doings/ plan have not been revealed. I hope we get to see the whole picture and have the resolutions we hope. But seven years of mistreatment, I just don't see Raelynn fully coming back. If these was 2-3 years, maybe, and I know it changes some characters around, but it would still work. Rooting for them!...
