Sierra flinched.
A flash of genuine hurt shone in her dark eyes.
She clearly hadn't expected Julian's words to be so razor-sharp.
He was openly threatening to kick her out.
Quentin scowled. "You rebellious brat."
He knew his son's temper.
Julian was stubborn to the bone and immune to both threats and reasoning.
Julian simply grabbed Raelynn's hand and led her away.
Sylvia quickly patted Quentin's shoulder, playing the peacemaker. "It's fine. Julian still has misunderstandings about me, and I understand. Please don't get worked up; it's bad for your health."
Quentin's eyes were clouded with complex emotions. "He's a grown man, yet he still acts like a petulant child!"
Sierra forced a wobbly smile. "Don't be mad, Dad. I understand where my brother and sister are coming from. I'll go give Raelynn a proper apology. I shouldn't have caused such a massive fuss just because of my allergies."
Seeing her so sensible and yielding, Quentin's frown deepened. "It wasn't your fault to begin with."

Raelynn obviously noticed how fiercely Julian was defending her.
But she was someone who held grudges.
A single protective moment wasn't going to erase the past so easily.
He led her into the tea room.
Julian walked over to pour her a cup of tea. "Grandpa bought this estate when he was still alive. The old man always knew he failed our mom, and when you went missing, he fell severely ill from the grief. For years, he stepped down from the business, traveling the country year-round just clinging to the slim hope of finding you. Right up until his dying breath, when his mind was completely gone, he was still whispering your name."
Raelynn hadn't known any of this.
An image flashed in her mind—a frail old man lying in a hospital bed, his eyes unfocused, still calling out for his lost granddaughter.
A suffocating wave of sorrow crashed against her chest.
She might feel indifferent toward Quentin.
But the elder Yves generation had quite literally poured their lifeblood into finding her.
"The Yves Mansion in Seaport City used to be breathtaking, overflowing with plants, mostly crabapples and gardenias. Our mom planted them. She adored flowers. But after she passed away..." Julian set the teacup down, his expression darkening with melancholy. "Those flowers were slowly dug up and thrown out, piece by piece. Today, the mansion is nothing but non-flowering greenery. Every trace of her is gone."
He had been too young back then.
By the time he grew up and realized what was happening.
