Raelynn yanked her arm, failing to break his iron grip, a spark of irritation flaring. "What does your private life have to do with me?"
That was the absolute truth.
Seeing him and Sierra in such a compromising position had shocked her initially. It felt surreal—after all, Sierra was technically an Yves, making her Raelynn's so-called sister.
As much of a jerk as Sebastian could be, and as much as he mocked convention, stooping to that level was surprising.
But...
She hadn't completely believed what she saw either.
In all the years she had known him, he had never given her a reason to worry about random hookups.
"Nothing to do with you," he echoed flatly, seizing her words.
His tone was unreadable.
Yet in the dim light of the night, the predatory heat in his eyes was enough to make her heart race.
"Raelynn, you've always had a talent for cruel words," he mocked softly.
Realizing she couldn't break free, she gave up struggling and tilted her chin defiantly. "Cruel words? If there was actually something between us, then my words might cut deep. But as you can plainly see, we are nothing to each other. On what grounds are you accusing me?"
She completely rejected his narrative.
He was making it sound like she was the heartless one.
He fell silent for a long moment.
Sebastian narrowed his eyes. "You seemed perfectly relaxed attending my engagement dinner tonight. Not nearly as desperate and frantic as Sierra."
Raelynn laughed. "I was willing to step aside when I thought you were cheating. Now that you've got a legitimate, high-society match lined up, why on earth would I interfere?"
"Right," his lips barely moved. "You never cared."
"Is that a bad thing?"
"It's perfect." He slowly released her slender arm, his voice returning to its usual cold detachment. "Less caring means less baggage. You'll never be weighed down."
It was impossible to tell if he meant it.
Raelynn turned to walk away.
