Boss, Your Wife Signed the Divorce Agreement Before the Wedding novel Chapter 888

A faint smirk touched his lips. "Weren't you wildly ambitious? Now that I'm handing the Croix family over to you, are you afraid it's going to burn your hands?"

Tristan was seething with rage. He knew exactly what kind of hellstorm the company was about to face and just how nightmarish the cleanup would be. Sebastian was purposely driving a knife into him.

He knew exactly how long Tristan had fought for this, knew exactly what he wanted. Yet Sebastian had deliberately thrown the Croix Holdings into absolute chaos before tossing this catastrophic mess at him like charity. It was utter humiliation and disdain.

He clenched his fists. "You're a member of this family too! What do you get out of dragging us through the mud like this? If the Hudsons and all our other rivals take this chance to swarm us, what do you gain? Are you just going to destroy everything out of spite?"

He thought it was utterly laughable!

Everything in this world could be fake.

Only power was real.

What was wrong with scheming for his own future? Meanwhile, Sebastian, the golden boy raised on a pedestal, never appreciated it. He dismissed it all as garbage. It made Tristan, who had to bleed just for a chance to compete, feel both ridiculous and fiercely resentful.

"Your bitterness and failures weren't caused by Raelynn, and she certainly doesn't owe you anything." Sebastian didn't answer the question, offering that statement instead.

It made Tristan freeze instantly.

Sebastian's eyes were utterly devoid of light. Fireworks exploded in the sky above them, yet his face remained impassive. "There's no need to disguise your cowardice as rationality. You were the one with impure motives from the start. Your calculated, cost-benefit love for her is exactly like you—cheap and pathetic."

Dropping those words, Sebastian turned to walk away.

Leaving Tristan standing rigidly in place, the freezing winter night chilling his blood.

The bitterness he had buried for years, along with the regret he had never wanted to admit, flooded his chest all at once.

Given the choice between Raelynn and power, he had chosen power.

And now, Sebastian had personally ripped that power to shreds and tossed it at his feet like loose change.

Relentless explosions that made the ears ring and the chest ache.

The night sky was brilliant, illuminated like broad daylight.

It reflected in their eyes, so dazzling it practically blinded them.

Sebastian didn't look back.

But Tristan continued laughing wildly. "At the time, I actually resented her for it. Why did she like you? Since she didn't want me, I certainly wasn't going to give up my ambitions for her. But I never imagined that someone as prideful as you would ever fall for a girl from that kind of background. You two were forced together, and you, the family, everyone assumed she jumped in for me, ready to die for my love. In a way, didn't I beat you?"

"Sebastian."

"You don't get to mock me for giving her up. After all, things between you and her are completely over now. Whether you're backing off because you finally realized she jumped into the lake and nearly died for you, or for some other reason entirely, your marriage is dead. So what if I tell you the truth now? You didn't end up much better than me."
