Randal froze for a second before his hands naturally settled on her waist, a hint of a smile surfacing in his eyes.
"What's wrong?"
Willa ignored him. She reached out, gently tracing the line of his brow with her fingertips, sliding down the bridge of his nose, and finally coming to rest at the corner of his lips.
There was still a faint scab there, almost fully healed.
"Did it hurt when you bumped it?" she asked.
Randal caught her hand. "No."
Willa suddenly smiled. "Randal, did you know you have a little tell when you lie?"
She didn't want things to end in a messy fight like they had all those years ago, but there were some things she still wanted to hear straight from his mouth.
This was the very last chance she was giving him.
She stared quietly into his eyes, waiting for his response.
Randal's body went slightly rigid. He rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb, his smile dimming, yet he still tried to brush it off with a casual tone.
"Is that so? I didn't know." He lowered his gaze, hiding the panic in his eyes.
He offered nothing more.
Willa waited a long time, until the light in her eyes completely faded.
She suddenly smiled, leaned down, and planted a kiss on his lips. Her tongue coaxed his teeth apart, carrying an undeniable trace of aggression.
Randal's breathing turned heavy. The hands resting on her waist tightened, pressing her flush against him.
Taking control, he deepened the kiss.
When they finally broke apart, Randal was panting slightly. "Willa, what are you doing?"
Willa gave him an innocent yet seductive look. "Mr. Yates, can't you tell I'm trying to seduce you?"
Randal's Adam's apple bobbed. He tried to speak, but she had already leaned down and captured his lips again.
This time, the kiss was far more heated.
Her hands slipped from his shoulders, unfastening his shirt buttons one by one.
The moment her fingertips brushed against the bare skin of his chest, his body noticeably tensed.
He grabbed her wrists, his voice raspy. "Willa."
