Bound by the Past, Locked by the Heart novel Chapter 151

She checked the time. It was only eight in the morning, meaning the doctor probably wasn't in yet. She set her phone aside and walked back to the dining room.

Randal was still sitting in his original spot, his breakfast barely touched as he kept his gaze fixed on her.

"Why aren't you eating?"

"Waiting for you. I lose my appetite when you're not here."

Willa let out a helpless sigh and sat back down beside him. She picked up a bite of her omelet and held it to his lips. "Can you eat now?"

He obediently opened his mouth and chewed, the corners of his eyes lifting slightly with a soft, dependent warmth.

Willa suddenly felt that, in this moment, he resembled a clingy golden retriever—docile and desperate for affection.

After breakfast, Randal left for the office.

Left alone on the sofa, Willa scrolled through the backend comments on her account, unable to calm her turbulent thoughts.

It wasn't until past nine that Dr. Wallace finally replied to her text.

[Hello, who is this?]

Willa hurried to type a response, but halfway through, she froze.

How was she supposed to define her relationship with Randal?

His girlfriend? He was about to become someone else's husband.

His friend? They had crossed that line a long time ago.

She deleted the text and started over.

[My name is Willa Vance. He hallucinated again yesterday, and I wanted to ask about his current treatment progress.]

This time, Dr. Wallace replied instantly. [Ms. Vance, is it convenient for you to jump on a call?]

[Yes.]

The next second, an audio call came through.

Willa answered, quickly retreating to the bedroom and shutting the door behind her.

"Hello, Ms. Vance. You mentioned he was hallucinating. Can you tell me the specifics? When did this happen?"
