Willa shot him a vicious glare, but Randal completely ignored it, continuing to drag his lips along the curve of her ear and down the side of her neck.
He had a maddening habit of using this exact tactic to manipulate her, and the worst part was that she was utterly powerless against it.
"Stop that!" she snapped, finally shoving his head away in exasperation. "Fine, you can come."
"Willa, you said yes," he purred, a sly, victorious undertone lacing his words.
Willa shoved at his arm, but it didn't budge an inch. "Let me go first."
He acted like he hadn't heard a word. Pulling back from behind her ear, his lips traveled downward, lightly biting the sensitive skin of her neck in a blatant display of claiming his territory.
Her knees buckled instantly. "What are you doing? Mrs. Gable is right there!"
"You're afraid she'll see?" he teased, a playful lilt in his voice. "Personally, I think it'd be great if she got a front-row seat."
Willa glared at him fiercely. "You... mmph..."
He didn't let her finish, capturing her lips in a bruising kiss.
One hand slid from her waist to cradle her face, his thumb pressing gently into her jaw to pry her mouth open.
She parted her lips slightly, and he ruthlessly seized the opening.
The bitter taste of black coffee flooded her senses, and she completely forgot to keep pushing him away.
When he finally broke the kiss, he yanked her tight against his chest, his breaths coming out jagged and desperate. "Willa, don't ever be that cold to me again. I can't take it."
Still utterly dizzy, Willa glanced up just in time to catch Mrs. Gable failing to hide an amused grin from the sidelines. Her face instantly caught fire.
"Let's just go," she muttered, forcefully shoving him away this time.
He flashed a thoroughly satisfied smirk. "Wait right here."
The second Randal disappeared upstairs to change, Mrs. Gable popped her head out, grinning from ear to ear. "Ms. Vance, it's so rare to see you this happy."
Was she? Had she actually looked happy just now?
She played deaf, staring down and furiously swiping through her phone.
Martin had sent a text letting her know he was already there, attaching a picture of the storefront.
She quickly fired back a reply: [Be right there.]
