"Still feeling sick?" Randal asked, his brows pulling together.
"I'm fine," she said, shaking her head. "It's just too hot. I don't have an appetite."
Once they were back in the car, the driver blasted the AC, and Willa finally felt like she was coming back to life.
She leaned against the seat and closed her eyes, letting the nausea in her stomach settle.
Sitting beside her, Randal held her hand and stared silently out the window, lost in his own thoughts.
Willa's phone buzzed in her purse. She didn't want to answer it, so she let it ring out. But a few seconds later, it started vibrating stubbornly again.
Randal turned his head and gently released her hand. "You should see who it is."
Willa pulled her phone from her bag. An unknown number flashed on the screen, the location showing Norvale.
A wave of unease washed over her. She instantly hit decline and blocked the number.
The peace lasted less than thirty seconds.
Another unknown number started calling.
Staring at the blinking digits, a flare of irritation surged within her.
She swiped to answer, but before she could speak, Naomi Whitman's shrill voice pierced her ear. "Willa! What exactly did you tell Randal? Are you trying to drive our entire family to an early grave?"
Willa closed her eyes and held the phone away from her ear. Only after the woman finished her tirade did she reply coldly, "What do you want now?"
"You have the nerve to ask me that?" Naomi's voice twisted with hysteria. "Stella made a foolish mistake in a moment of weakness. Did you really have to ruin her life? Now look what's happened! Her reputation is completely destroyed. Those photos... those videos... Who's ever going to want to marry her now? How is she supposed to live?"
Photos? Videos?
Frowning, Willa instinctively glanced at Randal.
He was still staring out the window, looking completely oblivious to her conversation.
