Lydia's lips trembled, and she looked like she was on the verge of tears. "Mr. Yates, I... I was just joking around with Ms. Vance..."
"A joke?" The wicked curve of Randal's smile grew sharper, but his voice was completely flat, devoid of any discernible emotion. "Then how about I play a joke on you too?"
Lydia looked absolutely terrified.
The commotion had already drawn plenty of attention, and a wave of whispers swept through the crowd.
"Is that Randal Yates? What's he doing?"
"Is he really going to hit a woman again? With a vicious temper like that, why are there still so many women throwing themselves at him?"
"If you had his looks and his family's money, you'd have women lining up too..."
"Shh, be quiet. Just watch."
Willa tugged hard on the hand Randal was gripping, keeping her voice low. "Randal, let go of me first."
Randal ignored her, keeping his icy gaze locked on Lydia as he spoke with measured emphasis.
"Apologize."
At the exact same moment, another voice rang out.
"Randal, what's going on here?"
Scarlett walked over, her eyes already veiled with a layer of frost.
She stepped forward and hooked her arm through Randal's, advising him softly, "Randal, let it go. Everyone is watching."
Randal frowned slightly, showing zero intention of backing down.
It was as if Lydia had found a lifeline. She rushed forward, crying as she spoke, "Scarlett, I was just... I was just talking to Ms. Vance for a bit..."
Scarlett's expression darkened. "You know exactly what you were trying to do. Randal is letting this go out of respect for me today, so watch yourself in the future."
With that, she leaned in closer to Randal, dropping her voice to a whisper. "Randal, give me some face. If you blow this out of proportion, it's going to look ugly for all of us."
