Sophie leaned in, her head practically resting on Willa's shoulder as she clicked her tongue twice. "What's the big bad wolf's game this time?"
Willa placed her phone face down on the sofa. "I have no idea."
Sophie straightened up, grabbing Willa's arm to turn her around.
"Be honest with me. What is going on between you and Randal?"
"I really don't know." Willa's mind was a chaotic mess.
"Then let me ask you a different question. Do you still have feelings for him?"
Willa fell silent, prompting Sophie to let out a tragic groan. "You're done for, Willa. You are completely doomed."
"I'm not planning on getting back together with him," she quickly explained.
"And if he disregards the social divide, cancels his engagement with the Sterling family, and insists on marrying you even if it means alienating everyone he knows?" Sophie asked, hitting the nail on the head.
Willa froze, unsure of how to answer.
Maybe she would be tempted?
But she didn't even dare to entertain a question like that.
Sophie gave her a meaningful smile, stood up to grab a bottle of wine from the cabinet, and waved it at her. "Liquid courage?"
"No thanks, I have to work tomorrow."
"Suit yourself." Sophie put the bottle back, went to the kitchen to pour a glass of milk, and handed it to Willa. "Then drink this."
Willa took the glass, warming her hands against it.
Sophie sat back down beside her, tilting her head with the predatory gaze of a little fox spotting its prey.
"Willa, tell me the truth. What do you think of Corbin?"
Willa looked at her in blank confusion. "He's... great..."
"And compared to Randal?"
"Well..."
Before she could finish, Sophie's eyes widened dramatically as she muttered, "Why are you even hesitating? Isn't Corbin a hundred times better than that jerk?"
Willa couldn't help but laugh. "You two really are family. An overprotective brother and a doting sister."
