"Is that any of your business, Ms. Sterling? You brought me here and said all of this just because you want me gone."
Willa picked up the contract, flipped to the signature page, and looked up at Scarlett's smug expression. Then, without a word, she raised her hands and tore the pages to shreds.
"Did it ever occur to you that the harder you push me, the less I want to leave?"
Scarlett's smile vanished.
Willa stood up, staring down at her.
"Scarlett, I'd never believe a word you say."
"Willa, you—"
Scarlett's face contorted in anger. That flawless, elegant facade finally cracked.
Willa couldn't be bothered to deal with her anymore. She turned and walked out, only stopping once she was outside the teahouse doors to take a deep breath and exhale slowly.
Saying those words had felt empowering, but deep down, she felt as sick to her stomach as if she'd just swallowed a fly.
Once she steadied her nerves, she pulled out her phone and called Sophie.
"Willa?" Sophie answered with a sweet, playful tone. "Calling me at this hour? Did you miss me?"
Willa wasn't in the mood for jokes. She cut straight to the chase. "Sophie, is Corbin around?"
Sophie paused. "Yeah, he is. What's wrong? You don't sound right."
"Could you ask him..." Willa took a deep breath. "If he knows who Silas Zeller is?"
"Silas Zeller?" Sophie repeated. "Alright, hold on, I'll go ask."
The line stayed open, and Willa listened to the sound of Sophie's footsteps fading into the distance.
A moment later, Corbin's voice came through. "Willa?"
"Mr. Sommers."
"Where did you hear that name?"
"From Scarlett Sterling," Willa answered honestly.
Corbin went quiet for a second. "Do you know the Yancy family?"
