"Exactly," Grace said with a cold snort. "You know your own condition. You're not suited to have children. So what Dorothea and I mean is, you need to be careful with birth control and avoid getting pregnant as much as possible."
Hearing such ridiculous words, Giselle glared at both Grace and Dorothea. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Dorothea sighed. "Giselle, back when you were in good health, I'd hoped you could grow the Kane family lineage. The more children, the better. But now, your condition has changed, and these lingering effects might affect the next generation. I've thought about this for a long time before coming to speak with you."
"My dad said this condition isn't hereditary. He's an expert and even advised me that I could have children—"
Grace cut her off mockingly. "Of course your father would say that. No matter how skilled he is, he's not a god. He can't guarantee your child will be perfectly healthy!
"Think about it. You need lifelong medication, and no drug is harmless. Who can guarantee it won't affect the baby? If the child turns out unhealthy with epilepsy or even deformities, what would you do? Could you and Don live with that?"
Giselle had already worried about this before.
Upon hearing Grace's blunt words, she felt a chill from head to toe and couldn't even speak.
Dorothea spoke earnestly. "Grace and I are sharing the same concern. We're considering the future for you and Donovan. Just to be safe, you really shouldn't have children…"
Giselle forced a bitter smile. "You're right. With my health, I really am not suitable. But knowing that Don could've had children normally, yet can't because of me, makes me feel so guilty."
"Actually, you don't have to feel guilty," Grace said with a sly smile. "Dorothea and I have come up with a solution. It protects your happy marriage with Don and still allows him to have healthy children. The question is, will you agree?"
That question made even Dorothea pause. She turned to Grace. "Is this actually reliable?"
Grace said without a hint of doubt, "Don't worry! I have a friend who's perfectly healthy but is terrified of giving birth. She paid a surrogate in Usna, and it went great. She even ended up with two kids, a boy and a girl. Both of them are almost 18 years old now and are completely healthy!
"So, Giselle, isn't our plan perfect? We're doing this for the sake of your marriage. If you disagree now and Don goes to another woman for a child in a few years, you'll be the one who ends up getting hurt."
Before Giselle could respond, a car horn sounded outside.
Benjamin stepped in. "Mrs. Kane Senior, Mr. Kane is back."
