Upon hearing that Donovan was home, Grace panicked and quickly stood up. "Dorothea, we've already said everything we needed to say. If Don sees us, he'll lose his temper again. We should go."
"He's not going to do anything to me!" Dorothea huffed. Since it was her son's house, she believed she could come and go as she pleased.
Soon, Donovan walked into the living room with his usual cold presence.
"Don, good timing," Dorothea said, not wanting to wait any longer. "I want to talk about you having a child."
Grace nudged her and whispered, "Dorothea, you can't just bring that up. He'll go crazy again. We should just leave and let his wife bring it up."
Dorothea thought it over and agreed. She shot Donovan an annoyed glare and said, "Since you treat us like enemies now, we won't come here to bother you anymore!"
With that, she left with Grace.
Seeing his mother and his nosy sister-in-law show up again, Donovan immediately grew alert and went straight to Giselle.
"Are you alright?" He checked her expression and mood, fearing that she might have been upset enough to trigger another episode.
Giselle looked calm. "I'm fine. Dorothea and I were just chatting happily until you suddenly came back."
"What were you guys chatting about?"
"Well…"
She thought for a moment. If she told him the truth, he certainly would rush out to confront Dorothea. The whole family would end up arguing, and she wouldn't feel great either.
"Don't worry," Giselle said with a smile. "Dorothea just came by to check on my health and reminded me to take care of myself. She also mentioned that once I'm fully recovered, she hopes we can try for a baby. After all, you're not getting any younger."
After dinner, they took a walk around the property.
He actually had a video meeting later that night, but he wanted her to fall asleep earlier. So, he went to bed with her first and planned to slip out afterward to attend to his work.
But even after 10:00 pm, Giselle's thoughts kept drifting, and she couldn't fall asleep.
Ultimately, she brought up the topic of having a child.
"Do you ever want a child that's truly yours?" She lay on his chest and spoke gently.
He was already drifting off, eyes half-closed and voice blurred with sleep. "Nope, I wouldn't want you to go through the pain of childbirth. Go to sleep, darling."
"What if… we used a surrogate?"
