"What's wrong?" Giselle asked.
Vivienne explained, "I… My son is sick. He's been hospitalized. I wanted to visit him, but Renee's men stopped me and wouldn't let me in!
"He's not even six months old, and it sounds like he's seriously ill. I'm so worried…"
Giselle felt her scalp tingle when she heard Vivienne's helpless sobs. "Which hospital is he in? How can I help you?"
"He's in Torgal Hospital. I was thinking… since you're Tony's daughter, if you showed up and talked to him, he might give in and let me see my baby boy.
"Are you free right now? Can you make the trip to the hospital? I really can't think of any other way to see him…"
"Yeah, I am free right now." Giselle thought it was just a small favor, so she agreed to help Vivienne without hesitation.
After hanging up, she took a shower, changed into something casual, and asked Hank to give her a lift.
…
Half an hour later, she arrived at Torgal Hospital. After calling Vivienne, Giselle learned that she was waiting on the second floor of the inpatient building, in the pediatrics wing, and that Tony had just gone into the ward.
Giselle went straight to the inpatient building, took the escalator to the second floor, and found Vivienne.
"Selle!" Vivienne's eyes misted over. "Renee has been guarding the room and won't let me near it. Come with me. Your father just went in.
"I can't reason with Renee, but you can talk to your father. No matter what, I have to see my son today!"
"Dr. Holt, I'm begging you, please let me see him!" Vivienne pleaded. "He's my own flesh and blood. How can I not worry about him?"
While Tony was hesitating, Giselle shoved him aside and dragged Vivienne into the ward.
The ward had a big, spacious living space where two housekeepers were busy working. Beyond it was another door that led to a small room. Renee sat beside the half-year-old baby, gently rocking him to sleep.
When she heard footsteps approaching, she turned around. Renee spotted Vivienne and was about to snap at her until she noticed Giselle walk in behind her. Then, her expression changed drastically in an instant.
Giselle, too, looked at Renee with open disdain. However, for a second, she almost didn't recognize Renee.
The woman in front of her was no longer the sharp, polished, iron-willed businesswoman she remembered. Her eyes were sunken, her face drawn and tired. She had no makeup on, strands of gray hair streaked through her temples, and she looked as if she had aged ten years overnight.
