Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 660

"After that…" Anne paused, a cold sneer tugging at her lips. "Then I met a kind guy who got me out of there and brought me back here."

"A kind guy?" Renee pressed. "Who is he? Is he from here?"

"No."

"Then who is it?" Renee demanded. "How did he rescue you? Tell me. I need to thank him properly and give him a large reward in person."

"No need." Anne brushed her off, clearly not wanting to dwell on the person's identity. "Anyway, he was the one who pulled me out of hell and gave me the chance to come home alive."

"I see."

Relief washed over Renee. She thought to herself that perhaps the gods were fair, after all. Giselle had come back alive back then, and now they had granted her own daughter a path to survive.

"Then how did you make it back?" she asked, still confused. "Your money, passport, ID card, phone, and even the plane ticket home. How did you manage all of that?"

She couldn't imagine how Anne, after escaping that barbaric hell, had managed to sneak back into the country and secretly live outside for so long without anyone noticing.

Anne let out a short laugh. "He helped me with all of it. His identity over there is, well, quite special. He has plenty of influence. He got me that country's citizenship, gave me a fake name, and then I came back here as a foreigner."

"Is that so?" Renee was on the verge of a meltdown again. "Anne, I never imagined you went through so much. I can never forgive myself.

"If I'd stopped you from going abroad back then, or sent you somewhere safer, you wouldn't have suffered all these disasters. This is all my fault. I ruined you…"

"It's not your fault, Mom. It has nothing to do with you, so stop blaming yourself," Anne said, then clenched her teeth. "All of this was that man's doing. He wanted me dead.

"No matter where I hid, I would never have escaped. Fortunately, the gods took pity on me, and my suffering is finally over."

Only then did Renee snap back to her senses.

"Mom." Anne cut her off and sneered. "You keep saying we should hold Donovan responsible, but where's the evidence? Do you even have any? Do you think he'd leave any traces behind for you to report him to the police?"

Renee was rendered speechless.

"How could there be no evidence?" She plowed defiantly. "If the police are willing to investigate and follow the clues, they'll find the mastermind. It's only a matter of time! I'll fight him to the end this time."

Anne shook her head. "It's pointless. If we sue him, the police will have to investigate abroad. You know how difficult it is to go to a place like that to arrest someone and interrogate them.

"Besides, we don't have the connections that the Kane family has. All they need to do is say a few words to the right people, and the police will drop the case. So don't bother."

"But you've been through so much," Renee choked out. "How am I supposed to swallow this anger?"

"Don't worry, Mom. After a year in that hell, I've grown a lot."
