Giselle's plans for Renee made her face pale.

She had to admit that if Giselle were to expose the recording and manipulate the internet to go against her, her reputation would be absolutely ruined.

The internet was already full of aimless crowds who loved scandalous stories about the wealthy. If her recording got out, paired with a few highly manipulated posts, there would be no way to clear her name. A single comment could do more harm than she imagined.

Worse still, if the matter of her killing her adoptive parents years ago resurfaced and gained too much attention, the police might reopen the case under public pressure.

The mere thought of the consequences she might face dampened her brazenness.

She recollected herself, her gaze darting between Donovan and Giselle.

"Bitch, are you trying to threaten me or strike a deal with me?" She scowled at Giselle. "As long as I don't sue Donovan for kidnapping and attempting to kill my daughter, you won't leak the recording. Is that what you want?"

Giselle sneered. "Don't twist my words, old hag. I told you, your daughter's disappearance has nothing to do with my husband.

"The reason I told you all that was to remind you of your sins. Stop playing the victim, thinking everyone wronged you. What you need to do is atone for your sins and forget about revenge. Otherwise, don't blame me for being ruthless."

She planned to gradually sideline Renee, and once she acquired all of Renee's remaining shares, she would push her out entirely, severing her ties with the company.

Realizing she was in a difficult situation, Renee knew venting her emotions would accomplish nothing. She shot a hateful glare at Giselle, then left the meeting room with the weight of her humiliation.

Still, defeating Renee didn't bring any sense of triumph to Giselle. She even felt a bit unsettled, especially given Anne's return; she had no choice but to become more vigilant.

"I thought you were going to hire bodyguards. How did it go?" she asked Donovan in the car.
