Chris stood still like a statue with his head slightly bowed. He was silently waiting for Giselle to finish breakfast. Much like a knight from ancient times, he simply offered his protection with no further conversation or any expressions.
Giselle couldn't help but chuckle.
"Hey, you don't need to be so stiff," she teased between bites. "Don't worry, this isn't a military camp. I'm not that strict with rules. We're equals, and I simply require your services. Just relax and be yourself."
Hearing this, Chris looked up at her for a moment.
"Does your girlfriend know that you're here as my bodyguard? What does she work as in Valanthea?" Giselle asked casually.
Chris was silent for a while before responding in a low voice, "I broke up with her."
"You broke up?" Giselle was surprised, but then quickly realized it was quite normal.
Some relationships couldn't last, and breakups were common, especially if they weren't married. It was also his private relationship, and she had no right to pry into his personal life.
After finishing her meal, Giselle grabbed her bag and got ready to leave.
As usual, the driver, Hank, was preparing to take her to the company. But Giselle said to him, "Hank, give the car keys to Chris. From now on, he'll be my driver and take me to and from work. You can handle other tasks."
"Okay," said Hank, handing over the keys to Chris.
Chris accepted the car keys and opened the back door for Giselle. He waited until she was seated, then quietly closed the door and moved to the driver's seat.
At the office, Giselle spent her morning reviewing documents. Later, she met with two senior executives to discuss the details of the collaboration between the company and Conrad's factory.
While she was working, Chris mostly patrolled nearby. Whenever anyone entered the office, he silently observed from the corner in a vigilant manner. He would also occasionally run errands for Giselle.
His role wasn't just that of a bodyguard but also an assistant as he stayed constantly by her side.
Giselle no longer had to worry about facing sudden dangerous situations or being attacked by others outside. She also didn't need to worry about a potential seizure without anyone around to help. Finally, she could fully immerse herself in running Sweetson Pharmaceuticals.
So, she didn't expect that while washing her hands in the women's restroom during lunch, a familiar face would appear in the mirror, drawing closer with a sinister grin.
