Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 696

The destination was a resort lodge on the outskirts of the city.

Giselle knew the place—the first time she had ever shared a meal with Gideon had been here.

That only made her more puzzled. Marselle wanted to treat her to dinner—why not choose a restaurant in the city? Why pick a place so out of the way?

When they arrived, Marselle was already waiting outside.

"Let's go upstairs to a private room," she said, slipping her arm through Giselle's.

Giselle wasn't used to such enthusiasm, but refusing would have been awkward, so she allowed Marselle to lead her toward the restaurant.

Chris followed a step behind, silent and vigilant, as if programmed to monitor every move around her.

At the door of the private dining room on the second floor, Marselle pushed it open. "Come in."

Giselle stepped inside and froze.

Someone was already seated at the table. It was Gideon, whom she hadn't seen in a long time.

He looked just as stunned as she felt, his expression tightening in a mix of surprise and discomfort.

He spoke first. "Giselle? Why are you here?"

Gideon was equally conflicted. Despite the frustration swirling inside him, seeing Giselle again after such a long time softened something in him. He steadied his expression and extended a quiet invitation for her to take a seat.

But just as Gisellse moved to sit, Chris appeared before her, grasped her arm with a firm but controlled grip, and said in a low voice, "Mr. Kane instructed that you are not to interact with this man. We should go."

Giselle froze.

Gideon glanced at Chris, confused. "And he is…?"

"He's Giselle's bodyguard," Marselle said before she could answer, her tone edged with mockery. "Her husband's so worried about her safety that he hired a bodyguard who follows her everywhere and won't let anyone get close to her. Very impressive, isn't it?"
