"Let's wait for Chris to come back first. Have her wait outside," Giselle said. She had learned her lesson and refused to give strangers any chance to enter alone.
But before Elowen could respond, the office door cracked open, and another voice called in.
"Giselle, it's me. Are you not welcoming me?"
She looked up. It was Marselle standing at the doorway.
Giselle paused. Marselle had saved her in the hospital last time, and the misunderstanding between them had been cleared. She probably wasn't here with bad intentions.
"You can come in. What do you need?" Giselle asked evenly.
"I do have something to talk to you about."
Marselle pushed the door fully open and walked toward the desk.
But before she could reach it, Chris burst into the office. He rushed past Marselle and shoved her hard.
"Ah!"
Wearing high heels, she lost her balance completely and fell onto the carpeted floor. The carpet softened the fall, but she still landed hard and winced in pain. She glared at Chris, furious.
"Who the hell are you? Are you insane? Why are you putting your hands on me?"
Chris stood over her, expression cold and unyielding. "No strangers are allowed to approach her."
"Moron!" Marselle snapped. She stared at him from head to toe, as though examining a faulty creature, then turned to Giselle. "Giselle, who's this? Do you know him? Does he have some kind of split personality?"
"Yes." Marselle looked unusually sincere. "I'm going back to Singario soon, and thinking back to the misunderstanding between us… especially the harm I caused you… I feel bad. I want to treat you to a meal and apologize properly."
"You don't have to apologize. We both made mistakes." Giselle still didn't understand the sudden shift in attitude.
"Maybe so. But at least let me do this. Otherwise, I'll feel embarrassed every time I remember it. And then I won't be able to face Donovan properly either."
Giselle caught the faint shade of melancholy in her eyes, and her sincerity seemed genuine enough. She had no evening engagements anyway, so she nodded. "Alright. Let's have dinner and clear everything up."
"Thank you."
After finishing the remaining tasks on her desk, Giselle left the office with Chris and got into her car, heading toward the location Marselle had sent.
