Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 703

Just then, Chris' cell phone started ringing.

Usually, when his phone rang, it was Donovan calling him, or occasionally a company employee with a work matter.

However, this time, his expression stiffened when he saw the caller ID, and he quickly hung up.

"Who was that?" Giselle asked as she drank her water, noticing his unnatural expression.

"It is..." He paused. "It is my ex-girlfriend."

"Oh," Giselle said generously. "Then you should hurry up and answer it. She called you last time, did she not? She might have something urgent to tell you."

Chris actually left the office to take the call.

A few minutes later, he returned to Giselle and spoke apologetically, "I need to leave you for two hours. She said she has been very sick lately and asked me to visit her."

"Really? Then you should go right now," replied Giselle.

She considered that he followed her around all day and had no personal life. If a woman wanted to see him, it was no problem for him to go and handle it.

"Okay," Chris said. "I will be back in two hours."

"There is no rush. I will give you the day off so you can handle your private matters properly."

At this point, Giselle did not forget to remind him, "By the way, did you not say your ex has a husband? You need to watch your behavior and avoid getting into trouble."

"I will."

Chris touched his stinging cheek. He didn't take the slap to heart and simply asked calmly, "What do you want?"

"You have the nerve to ask?" Anne stared at him through gritted teeth. "At the warehouse entrance today, you knew I was more likely to get hit. Why did you not save me first?

"Your first reaction was to hug that bitch. You didn't even spare me a glance. What is the meaning of this?"

Chris looked away, turning his body to face elsewhere. "I am her bodyguard. It is my responsibility to protect her."

"Bodyguard my ass!" Anne grabbed him and cursed aggressively. "It is just an act! Did you actually start believing it? When my life was threatened, you should have saved me immediately!"

Faced with her emotional accusations, Chris' expression remained unchanged aside from his usual gloominess.

"I think you have been with that bitch for too long and forgotten who you are, have you not?" Anne stared him dead in the eye, a cruel sneer curling her lips as she reminded him of his identities. "Jensen Whittaker from Usna? Or Orin Sontara from Malithorn!"
